First Class Street Performance

I know you're all probably sick of links, but my house is destroyed and I just don't have anything very interesting going on lately. I'll think of something.

However, HERE is an interesting article about how the Washington Post put a world famous violinist, Joshua Bell, out on the corner as a street performer to see if people would recognize talent outside of a concert hall.

I thought it was an interesting experiment and found the results pretty fascinating too.

  1. Ashley, thank you so much for sharing this! It was a totally engaging read, and the videos/music samples were amazing. So fascinating! I totally want to pick up the CD for my husband. He loves classical music, and what a treat it will be to introduce him to Joshua Bell. -Lilly

  3. I really enjoyed that article. A very interesting subject and I enjoyed the author's style. He made mention of my favorite poet Billy Collins. If you haven't read anything of his (or even if you have) I highly recommend his compilation "Questions About Angels". The title poem is one of my all time favorites but I love all the poems in this book. I think you, especially, would enjoy "Reading Myself to Sleep". Here is another of my favorites, which is short so I will type out.

    The Hunt
    by Billy Collins

Somewhere in the rolling hills and farm country/
    that lie beyond speech/
Noah Webster and his assistants are moving/
across the landscape tracking down a new word./

It is a small noun about the size of a mouse,/
one that will be seldon used by anyone,/
    like a synonym for "isthmus",/
but they are pursuing the creature zealously/

as if it were the verb "to be"/,
swinging their sticks and calling out to one another/
as they wade through a field of waist-high barley./

Don't tell the non-commenters, but I secretly hate them.

(kidding, kidding, I don't hate all of them. The shy ones are okay. The lazy ones suck though.)
