I just signed up for Netflix--what needs to go on my queue? (I just spent so long looking at the word 'queue' that it looks impossibly weird now, and it looked weird enough to begin with)
Documentaries, independent films, comedies, family friendly stuff, television series that I've missed--what are some of your favorites?
Ohhhh I think you'd love Born into Brothels, esp. as a photographer! You could get Family Guy series and go to bed whenever you wanted!! Did you see Slumdog Millionaire?

Those are several that I've watched (and kept) in my instant queue. I love Netflix but I wish they offered more instant options. I don't have the patience to wait for DVDs to be delivered.
This may be a weird sounding suggestion but I just saw The Wrestler with Mickey Rourke and I really liked it. I didn't think I would.

every once in a while I need a silly movie that doesn't require much thought. Bride Wars was surprisingly good in that group. Knocked Up was hilarious. Not sure what else is out, we canceled blockbuster online a while back.

I haven't seen a new movie in ages so I can't help you there, but I spent 15 minutes earlier today trying to figure out the correct way to spell queue because it didn't look right to me either!

My Life as a Dog - the subtitled version is best as the native Scandinavian language (not sure if it's Swedish or Norwegian) is very musical and somehow adds to it...
I agree with Megan (and not just because she's my daughter)... ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT IS A MUST SEE! You can get caught up on the series before the movie comes out next year.

ReplyDelete11:14 is pretty good, I liked it a lot.
If I have BK pegged right, I think he's a LOT like me when I was little, Oliver! was always a favorite. Still is. Funny Girl, too, but that's more of a girl story.
Lets see... other childhood favorites of mine.. Once Upon a Forest, Ferngully, the Zorro series with Guy Williams (my first love, him and Jack Wild).
Pan's Labyrinth is also excellent, if you don't mind the subtitles. Not child-appropriate though.

The office! I finished all 5(?) seasons in a few weeks! For documentaries, I love anything by Michael Moore. An inconvenient truth was amazing. For comedy, pineapple express, kinda stupid but cracked me up. And James Franco makes it so worth it :)
ReplyDeletehave you seen "Man on Wire?" that's the best documentary i've seen in a while. speaking of docs, "The King of Kong" is my favorite (even if you're not interested in watching two grown men battle for the Donkey Kong world record)

ReplyDeleteSaw Slumdog--fantastic movie. Beautifully shot, amazing actors, best movie I've seen in a while.
Saw The Wrestler--I agree that it was surprisingly good. Very well directed, I loved some of the details.
Mad Men--one of the best shows on TV.
I saw every episode of 6 Feet Under and still mourn the loss of that awesome show. I also loved Dead Like Me, it was cute and clever.
Born into Brothels was excellent.
Marley and Me was good if you're a masochist. I couldn't get into Gran Torino.
We just saw Knowing with Nicholas Cage and it was suspenseful and interesting.
Step Brothers and Pineapple Express are the two funniest movies I've seen all year. I love ridiculously funny stuff like that.
Benjamin Button was a work of art! I didn't want to like it, but it was beautiful.
There are some really good suggestions here that I wouldn't have thought of on my own. Keep them coming!

ReplyDeleteMoonlight - another vampire series this one was on CBS and cancelled after one season because of the writers strike. SOOOOO GOOD! The vampire in this - oh my! Love it!
Sorry - just noticed I have a thing for vampires. Need counseling since Twilight! ha
When we got Netflix... we watched Heroes from season 1.. until we got caught up. Also.. theres a good documentary Called.. Walmart.. the high cost of low prices.... I guarantee you'll have pangs of guilt even pulling in the parking lot after you watch it!! I'll try and think of some others good ones.. Im glad you got Netflix!!

Not sure what this says about me, but most of my memorable movies have been heartbreaking in some way or another- The Wrestler, The Reader, Into the Wild, Milk, Sicko, City of God, and Mystic River.

Surfwise (MUST SEE) and Swimming with Sharks. Both are fab.

ReplyDeleteYou will find that them movies currently in theaters are in their database. So I always put movies that I want to see but know I'm not going to get to the theater for - in my que. Then when they come out on DVD, they are already in my que.
