House Signs

So there came a point where I looked at Mr. Ashley and said, "I'm going to be disappointed if we don't move to that ugly little house," and he said, "I know, me too."

So we negotiated with the new landlord, got an astronomical deal for our area and got the keys for the Ugly Seagull. Well, Mr. Ashley negotiated and got the keys because I don't like unfun grown-up stuff unless there's no one else to do it for me.

Oddly enough, the last time I was at Wal-mart I decided I wanted a tie-dyed key. I don't know why, I'm not even a tie-dye type of person. I just wanted one of the cute custom keys and that was what I picked for the house we live in now.  I didn't tell anyone though because it was a weird want. I was right not to tell anyone because when I told my friend this story tonight she said, "Why on earth did you want a tie-dyed key??" and I understood why she asked.

But Mr. Ashley came home with the signed lease and the well-worn key and...it was a tie-dyed key.

I'm a big believer of signs (and no, I'm not a schizophrenic, although I'm also a big believer in thinking I may have every disease or disorder I've ever heard of) and I think this was my wink from the world that the life plan is right on track (I still don't know where we're going, though.)

Also, tonight I had a girl date with above-mentioned friend. We went to see the Ugly Seagull but it was late and I was afraid we were lost. It was dark and the roads were curvy. I finally saw a familiar landmark and turned around into our driveway and she gasped and said she knew this house.

"How do you know this house? Do I even want to know?" I asked.

She said that her car had flooded in that neighborhood (fantastic!) and she was caught in calf-deep water with a toddler in her arms and thunder and lightning everywhere. Terrified, she ran to the nearest house, up under the dry carport and to their front door which they opened and welcomed her and her child inside until help could arrive.

How perfect is that?

So, I'm back to thinking it may all work out after all.

(Once I get rid of 800 square feet of stuff.)

the key is definately as sign! a tie dyed key says "Dude, come live here. Bring the family, I have all the necessities and life will be great for you here"......

Wishing you tons of happiness in the Ugly Seagull and hoping you have less heinous neighbors :)

I'm also a believer in signs, and both of those would have made me cry (because I'm also a big sap). I look forward to hearing the adventures of your family and the Ugly Seagull!

MTGrace said what I wanted to say. (Pouting) But 2 signs is very fortuitous!

Awesome!!!! I look for signs like that too. Sounds great. After a while once you've moved and made the Seagull homey you and your husband will laugh at your first impression of it. My kids shared a room and loved it.

Yes yes yes! I am a bit of a mystic myself (haven't ever told anyone that, but I totally am) and I totally agree that those were two very important signs! The universe WANTS you to live in the Ugly Seagull!!!!!

Those signs are awesome. Here's what I'm wondering, though, because I am a big worry wart: How do you and the boys feel about moving schools?! :( I hate moving kids to another school, even when it is a potentially better school. Do you have a few minutes to post about this angle?

I think I missed something. I thought you guys were moving away from Florida. Did I miss a post?

Theresa, the husband didn't want to work at the place that interviewed him so we were going to stay put until the summer but for now we're back to thinking NC is on the long-term plan list.

Cindy, I worry about that too (obsessively) and unfortunately Big Kid has had to switch schools before. I've left it up to them if they want to switch or not (we could apply for an out of zone exemption) and neither seem to care. little kid's best buddy goes to the potential new school and Big Kid is hoping to find an unboring school and isn't attached to the current one.

Oh and they won't switch until the beginning of next year. They can finish this year, thank goodness.

I was wondering about the school change too - that's great that they can finish this school year at the current school.

I think this will be a great move!

All great news!

Ashley, it sounds like it's all coming together and you have no reason to obsessively worry about the school switch (and neither does this complete stranger - haha).

Now all you have to do is pack. ::making stabbing motions against my gut:: Ugh. xo
