OMG! I am laughing so hard! I was so confused on what he was saying but hopefully by the end of his class he will be able to say the actual NAME of the class!

Ok, I hate to be all negative ninny, but speech therapy is a big deal and something you should've known about before he just came home & told you. It's considered special education & you should've had a meeting with his teacher & the speech pathologist to determine whether or not he needed speech. My guess is, based on the way you write his language, he's probably needed it for years.

Tara, I think he was evaluated today and he may have figured out it was for speech because his brother was in there too...for his speech class. I disagree that speech class is a big deal, as I don't know even one adult that talks like a baby accidentally and I do think he'll be fine, but I appreciate your insight and concern.

Big Kid has been in speech since he was 3, so I know the routine.

I went to speech class for lisping. Didn't help much, but I still managed to get a Master's degree. You know, A average. Despite my huge disadvantage.

Hee hee, I tease, but hopefully he will get more out of speech than I did.

It actually has helped Big Kid a lot, his teacher and I think he really doesn't need it anymore but he loves to go so I'm not pushing to have it stopped. I think it's important but nothing to freak out about.

Big Kid did need it early, little kid will catch up more easily.

I am 41 years old and still can't say "Roar" correctly even though I went to speech as a kid. :)

He's smarter than most adults already so I think he will be fine.

I finished high school with a 4.0 (higher, with weighted classes figured in) and I'm in college to be a teacher with a 3.8-ish GPA.

And I still say "flaucet" instead of "faucet". And "whoo-shoo-shoo" instead of whatever that "W" sauce for meatloaf is called.

I think he'll be fine. :-)

All my kids have been in speech. The only thing you need to be aware of is whether or not LK is of an age where he is physically capable of making the sound. My kids all had trouble with -ER, IR, OR. They basically sounded like they were from Boston - You drive a CAH. Until they were 8 speech therapy was not effective. They all liked to go - games and time out of class. My kids are all ok - really - except Masta Max and it's not because of speech. LOL. Kerry

That's awesome. I'm glad y'all finally figured out what he was saying. It drives me crazy when one of mine is trying to tell me something that I don't get and instead of changing what they are saying they just get louder and louder.

That's freakin' awesome..and I must admit that I was so relieved to hear that it was 'speech' and not 'sex'!! But...I'm going to be really sad when LK stops talking like LK! I miss the him's, her's and all the other LK-talking from my now 10-year old.

As a speech therapist I LOVE THIS STORY! It's up there with the little girl who kept telling her mom that she went to 'the beach room' with me!Tara - some schools still have speech improvement which doesn't have to be special education. And, sounds are developmental in nature so he probably hasn't needed speech for a long time - the sounds often aren't acutally in error until kids are older. And good for Big Kid - speech is usually a big, fun party!

Aweeee... little buddy! I too have a little guy who can be hard to understand. It's so frustratingly heartbreaking! But can be cute too tough. We find ourselves actually referencing to things as what Buddy calls them.
