Hello Henry

After 12 years of service, Mr. Ashley and I hauled our old couches to the curb because tomorrow West Elm is delivering the Henry:

Believe it or not, I was kind of sad to see those old Rooms to Go couches go. They've moved 4 times, they were around when we were young and hopeful, they've seen the arrival of 2 babies, they knew our original pets, they withstood the abuse of our two growing boys, and they were super freaking comfy after all of that breaking in.

I'm sure I'll get over it some time between 2-4pm tomorrow, though.

Pretty! I love that his name is Henry as well. I would change the word couch to Henry in my vocab. As in "Mr. Ashley, can you fold the towels I left on the Henry?"

Dear Ashley,

I’m writing after 4 (YES FOUR) years of lurking. To be fair, I was far too wrapped-up in reading your entries whilst thoroughly enjoying every single word you write – even down to the comments. In fact, I love reading your blog so much, I've been known to re-read your past entries the minute I reach a latest post of yours. Anyway, I wanted to take a minute or two to say that you and your beautiful family are very much loved; even from this side of the planet. Do keep those entries coming!

Much love,
Christina from Hong Kong

My husband and I got a new couch ,pretty similar to yours. We were both REALLY SAD to see the old one go. It was a GORGEOUS leather couch from, well, the mid 80s. It had seen DH through middle, high school and college, and then was in our first home together. Our dog was allowed on it and we considered saving a cushion for him :). Instead, I put it up for free on Craigslist, and lo and behold, it is now someone ELSE's basement couch. It made me happy to see it go somewhere other than the dump.

(FWIW we LOVE the new couch, and it's strictly No Dogs Allowed. Dog has since gotten his own bed)

Christina, what a lovely comment!! I can't thank you enough, that really means a lot to me.

I love Henry (totally doing that, Sash) but will admit I had a twinge of "Oh god, my sweet dear old couches are gone and this was a mistake." Henry is lovely and looks very nice in the room, fits perfectly but it still feels like it's on loan. I found myself sitting in a bean bag chair earlier today because I didn't want to mess it up, lol.

Jackie, we put the oldies out at midnight and by 7 am someone had taken them. I felt much better that they didn't go to the dump--someone else got new couches too! And they had good bones (just rough skin, lol). I'm glad someone appreciated them enough to overlook their flaws.
