2010 Reading List

I wanted to do a best book of the year wrap-up post about all of the books I read this year and which were best and why but all of a sudden there's only hours left of 2010 and I have things to do.

So, without much fanfare, I'm going to say that The Art of Racing in the Rainwas by far the best book I read this year (and you can see the full list in my side bar). It was a clever, beautifully written, witty, poignant (I rarely use that word; I'm being serious here, people) story that I never wanted to read in the first place. My hairdresser told me about it and I thought it sounded dumb, I read the description and I thought it sounded dumb, I downloaded it from the library onto my Nook one day and couldn't pull myself away. It made me laugh and cry and think in good ways.

I LOVED this book. I didn't like this book, I LOVED this book and I wish I could make every single one of you read it.

I also really liked The Help When I started it, I thought it was going to be cheesy and gimmicky with the Southern dialect and going back and forth between characters but it was well written, enjoyable and important. It would have gotten 2nd place on my 2010 list that will never be.

Most important book I read this year was Zeitoun It's a true story that I can't believe we all don't already know.

My least favorite book was probably Between the Assassinations I thought it was boring and didn't really go anywhere.

And that's our 2010 Reading List Wrap Up.

I hope you all have a Happy New Year!

I'm excited to read The Art of Racing in the Rain this year. I haven't heard of one person NOT loving it.

Ohhhh...I might have to get this Racing in the Rain book on my Kindle tonight! I had never heard of it before now, so I looked it up on Amazon. The description sounds awful - like nothing I'd ever be remotely interested in reading. But the first reader review makes it sound really good. I'm in the mood for a tear-jerker.

That's one more reason why I love my Kindle. Even though I am a children's librarian and I love real, paper, hold-in-your-hands books more than I can describe, and I indignantly turned down my husband's offer of a Kindle for my birthday, he got it for me anyway and I am now in love with it! Yay e-readers!

I am so excited about my nook just went and looked up info about my local library and looks like I can download stuff thru them. Unfortunately The Art of Racing is out right now but I can be put on the list and there is only 1 other on it, so looks like this book is in my near future. Thanks I am in desperate need of good books now that I have the Nook

ok looks like I have to go get a library card before I can download it, since the library Nazi seems to have taken the kids library card privileges away;) must have something overdue.

I recommend The Rite. I saw the movie preview the other day and looked up the book (I'm a sucker for Anthony Hopkins). It is written by a journalist who followed a priest through what I will call the exorcist training program. Very interesting AND entertaining. It covers Catholic doctrine on angels and demons, etc. Masta Max (14) is now reading it - I figure it's good for him as at one point he told me that was what he was going to be when he grew up. Although in the past year he says he's going to be the head of the Department of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms because it's neat how they go together.

PS -
I still haven't forgotten about Animal Crossing, just no time during Christmas. I had to bake for weeks on end. LOL.

I love you and I love your blog. I am one of the non-commenters that you hate. I have read you for years but never comment...mainly because I feel like I should be witty and will only disappoint you...and maybe make you think you have boring blog followers.
I was excited to see your link to a book that you love though and more excited to see the book was only $6 when I was ready to dish out about $15.
I do promise to be better about commenting...I know you love to be loved.
