Big Things

Tomorrow is little kid's first day of kindergarten and Big Kid's first day of third grade. As you all know, the thought makes me sad. My boys are growing up and that's hard.

But you know what else?

I'm going to be home ALONE from 8:30 to 2:50 five days a week, bitches! Whenever I start getting a little misty-eyed, I picture myself at the BEACH or GROCERY STORE or WHEREVER I WANT all alone and I can't help but smile. I have been keeping the thought of this day in a hidden little drawer in my heart, my own little escape hatch, for the past 5 years and tomorrow it shall arrive.

I love those children. I enjoy being with them. I am sad summer is over. But the thought of getting to know me again, the me that is separate from the snack-getter and sandwich-maker...that's a thrilling thought. I can read books or watch grown up television, or sing and dance to "girl" music, and not talk about video games or cartoons. I can be anyone I want.

From 8:30am to 2:50pm on week days.

I'm still a few years from being alone in the house, but I'm with you. I'm REALLY looking forward to some one-on-one time with my cute baby without my daughter- who believes she is life's narrator.

Yay for school starting!!

Enjoy it! My oldest will be starting 9th grade, my middle child will be in 2nd, and my baby starts preschool. First time in 14 years that I will have a few hours a week to myself... I'm so looking forward to it!

Oh that's awesome! Cheers to you getting to know "you" again. I know that this time apart will make the bond with your kids even stronger.

Oh I agree with Jennifer I can NOT wait to hear all the "tales from Kindergarten" it's gonna be fantastic i know it:)

Mine are 4th and kindergarten this year! and while I am not completely alone since I keep a little one it is awesome to just have 1 at home, I haven't had just 1 in a LONG time! oh and she naps for about 2hrs a day so there is that time I can look forward to.

I feel the same way about my recent stress leave from work - You mean I *don't* have to deal with my annoying co workers for 9 hours a day and drive 2 hours to do said dealing?

Yay for alone time just for you :)

Sometimes I (secretly) wish I'd get laid off again so I could enjoy those hours while the kids are at school!
