It turns out that the only animal I've ever been allergic to in my entire life is my sorely needed and desperately loved new best friend.
One hug leaves me covered in huge red hives from my wrists to my armpits that burn and itch and make me want to peel my skin off.
I won't get rid of him, I can't get rid of him, and I won't stop hugging him and I can't stop hugging him so I guess this is my new life.
I want to go outside and shout to the heavens, "YOU WIN, UNIVERSE!! OKAY?!? YOU FREAKING WIN. You are the WINNER and I am the LOSER and if you don't mind, I'd like to just quietly live my little life down here with as little misery as possible since we've already determined that YOU WIN."
Because sometimes it's hard not to take life personally.
But instead I will wear long sleeves and hug my dog and give the universe the finger whenever I think it's not looking.

Have you tried giving him a bath? If it is the only animal you have ever been allergic to, perhaps it is whatever he was last washed with that you are allergic to? I have some issues with certain types of soap.
When all else fails- Zyrtec.
I did give him a bath but I do think he needs another one. He was really dirty, in a very gross way, and not really down with the idea of a bath so it wasn't very thorough. I don't think I'm allergic to that soap, though.
And I keep reading that wiry terrier types are the best for people with allergies but my skin disagrees!
I'm going to the doctor to figure out what's up. He's still the cutest thing in the whole wide world. (My dog, not the doctor)
I had this problem with our dogs (rescues from the shelter) and it turns out that they put something weird on their coats. So I had to bathe our dogs (I made my husband do it) 3 times I used really gentle oatmeal shampoo since I had to do it 3 separate times. I hope that helps or your dr. can suggest something.
I am horribly allergic to cats but when I go back home to FL every summer to see my bestie and the kids, I deal with their two cats by taking Zyrtec. As someone who has suffered her entire life- we are talking face puffs up to the point that I can't see without heavy meds- this drug is a lifesaver. The packaging is ridiculous though. So don't try to open it when your face is scratchy and puffy or it will result in tears and screaming. I'm not saying that's happened to me but...it totally has.
Zyrtec though. I swear by it.
