Bed Time Aversion Tactics

About 30 minutes after bed time, like every night, little kid trekked into my room.

"little kid, what are you doing?!?" I asked.

"The 'zact same thing I do every night," he said with a laugh. He ran over to my side of the bed.

"And what exactly is that?" I asked.

"You know how I do. Just give me a kiss, princess."

I gave him a kiss and sternly said, "GO TO BED, LITTLE KID. No more kisses after bed time if this continues."

So imagine my surprise when I heard a joyful giggle from the kitchen area a couple of hours later. I sent Mr. Ashley out to investigate and apparently little kid was standing in the middle of our kitchen, peeing on the rug and laughing.

Mr. Ashley said his name which startled him and it was then that he realized he wasn't in the bathroom. He must have (might have?) been sleep-walking.

Unfortunately, we laughed so hard about it that I'm afraid he may add peeing on the kitchen floor to his after bed time routine.

And that doesn't work for me.

So I'm totally delurking to comment on this post. I've been reading your blog for a couple of years now following little kid's adventures. I have my own little kid. He just turned four and every post that you talk about yours in, I always secretly think how glad I am that someone else has a little gremlin of their own to antagonize them. My son calls me baby and honey when I yell at him for something and literally says "What? Why are you looking at me like that?" when I give him the evil eye. He says some of the strangest things. Last week he announced to a room full of people when we were leaving: "Mommy, let's go home and make out with Daddy!" I was so mortified. I'm definitely not sure where the hell that one came from. He follows me everywhere I go in our house but the second he stops following me I know he's attempting to break, destroy, dismantle, or otherwise annihilate something I own. I find myself laughing and nodding while reading your blog entries about little kid because his antics are either so similar to my own son's or I'm getting a crash course in what mine's going to figure out to push my buttons with next. Long story short, thanks for sharing your stories. They make me feel not as weird about some of the stuff my kid does and says.

OMG! my son (who is 31 now) did the same thing when he was around 5. He got up and came out of his room and made a left, then a right (instead of a right then a left) and stood at threshold of the kitchen and started to pee! I was sitting on the couch, wathcing tv and saw him, took a few seconds for it to register what was happening! I said "hey bud, what are you doing?", he stopped and looked at me and i realized he was asleep, poor kid, i directed him to the bathroom, got him back to bed, cleaned the pee up, then called his dad (firefighter on 24 hour shift) and we laughed our butts off! totally forgot about this until now! thanks for the memory jog LK!

"Just give me a kiss princess" How the hell can you get mad at that?

My oldest once sleep walked up to his little brother's play kitchen and peed in the sink. I wouldn't have believed it had I not witnessed it.

Does he always do joyful giggles when he pees? Hmmm....

I've got a sleepwalker. Last night she was "awake" telling me what outfit I needed to have ready for her to wear to the "unintelligible" place she was going. I just "yeah, yeah'd" her and told her to go back to sleep. Thankfully she has never pee'd anywhere. That I know about.

Oh my gosh, that's priceless! How do you not crack up when he says stuff like that?

At least he's cute when he's being rotten! Mine get up screaming and fighting after bed time. I swear the neighbors are going to call the cops one day with all the noise from that room.

Oh my gosh lol. I saw my oldest girl sleep walk once but she just walked to the bathroom and then walked right back to her bedroom (without doing anything). Definitely odd!
