Care

For the sake of some of my Facebook friends, I really hope mental health is covered under the new health care law.

You would all be AMAZED at some of the barely literate, practically incomprehensible, completely bat shit insane status updates I've managed to ignore. I deserve a gold star for good behavior.

Not ONE word in the past 8 years about this asinine war that we're fighting but now they are being stolen from and think that the threats of physical violence against congressmen are warranted.

Spending trillions of dollars to kill strangers? Yes, that's fine. Patriotic even! But don't you dare tax our right to indoor tanning, motherfuckers!!

One summed it up quite nicely, "Great. 35 million people will have access to health care but now I AM SCREWED!! Real fair, Obama!"

Yeah! Fuck those 35 million irresponsible shit heads. Let's send them over to Iraq and blow them up. Problem solved.

Here's a great summary
of what the health care reform means for the next 5 years. I personally can't wait to round up all of the elderly for the death camps. My city will be practically empty!

Seriously! And have you heard about the brick throwings and death threats to the congressmen that voted for it? And a VA congressman's brother's gas lines were cut too! Whoever did it had the wrong address. I have never seen this type of behavior over something like this!

Again Ashley, from my Northern perspective, I don't get the majority of my neighbours to the south. You appear to be the sanest person south of the 49th parrallel.

Ugh, I've been seeing the same things. One person actually put as a status, "Obama, you're a fag." 25 or so people "liked" it.

I agree and although I typically vote conservative, I am horrified and embarrassed by the comments and statements made by these nuts.
I have had cancer and had my insurance premiums skyrocket because they wanted to get me off the policy. I have been turned down for insurance.
I think it is a good first step. We will not all die and this is not the end of the world as we know it!

I'm with you. Living in Texas 80 - 90% of my "friends" are conservative. I'm ducking for cover over here and avoiding facebook. It sucks.

Amen, Sistah! Frightening, isn't it?

Thanks Ashley! You always say it so perfectly. :)

By the way - I LOVED the video from yesterday. Thanks!

I just quietly deleted the worst offender from my friends list--first time I've removed anyone and she's the type who will notice but damn it felt so good! She believes Fox News is objective reporting and can't shut up about it...we cannot be friends.

I am so ashamed at how some people have chosen to behave over this whole thing. To disagree is one thing, but the pride some people take in displaying their ignorance is truly astounding. Calling the President of the United States the n-word or a faggot? Thank God (or the constitution) that he supports your right to say it.

I'm also impressed at how many republicans must not have pre-existing conditions. Remarkable!

Have you seen the thing on Sarah Palin's website talking about "reloading" and placing crosshairs on states/democrats that she is "targeting"? Absolutely sickening!

I live in Michigan. We were, or at least at one time we were, the most heavily unionized state in the nation. I have several friends who still have union jobs with wonderful healthcare benefits. Most of them have worked at their jobs all of their working lives and seem to have NO CLUE that if they should ever lose their union jobs that they will never get another job with such great healthcare coverage. They have no idea that my healthy husband and I pay $625 a month for a so-so health insurance policy. None of them could afford that and they would pay even more since they all have children. Each and everyone of them are totally against the "socialist government controlled healthcare law". I always ask them if they are willing to give up the benefits of the other "socialist" programs the government has set up....hmmm....what a surprise...none of them is willing to give up their Social Security or Medicare benefits. LMAO!!!!

So, I work in health policy. And it makes my eyes bleed to read what people have to say about health reform- on both sides of the spectrum.

People are ignorant. I've spent a year knee-deep in health reform, and there's a lot about the bill(s) that I'm still learning. Whether you're pro- or anti- heatlth reform, at least know what you're talking about.

A good example is my mother, a die-hard Connecticut conservative. She's 100% against health reform, not because she's absorbed the information and made an educated decision, but because that's the party line. She has no idea what is actually in the bill, other than more taxes and whatever else she heard on Good Morning America.

I live in Massachusetts, where there are plenty of ignorant folks in favor of health reform, with no idea how it will actually impact them.

So I can talk health reform all day, but not to people with idiotic sweeping statements about what will or won't happen. Here's a hint: there will be some law suits that kick around for a couple years before getting thrown out, but there won't be a secession.

That being said, if anyone has questions about reform-- let me know! It's what I get paid to do.

Ugh, you are so right about Facebook. I have never seen such hateful and offensive status updates as I have this week. I feel like I'm learning the "truth" about some of my friends... not just that they're anti-health reform, which I can handle just fine, but that they're mean-spirited, nasty, and selfish people. It's just so disappointing. I try not to defriend people based on their opinions, but if their tone is hateful or nasty, then they really just need to get the F off my list.
And anyone condoning or championing domestic terrorism against House Democrats and their children? DELETED. I don't tolerate hate speech in my house, and I sure as hell won't tolerate it on my Facebook. I will say that all of this vitriol has reaffirmed my values and beliefs 500% and made me want to be a better person, so there's one positive.
Your blog is my favorite!

I can admit that the law is not exactly as I would like it to be, but I do think it's a necessary first step and I think civilized countries take care of the sick.

My husband's 86-year-old grandma gets furious at other senior citizens who have Medicare and social security but oppose health care reform. "They've got theirs!" she yells as she shakes her tiny fist. "Don't let them take this from you young people!" She's a whole 'nother (amazing) blog post though.

I agree that many of these people (union or not) fail to realize they are one lay-off from it happening to them--even if you have six months in savings...it will probably only last you six months. I hope they never find out the hard way because it would probably hurt even worse if you were completely oblivious to the possibility.

Sarah Palin and some of the TEA partiers are acting an awful lot like terrorists--threatening, inciting and provoking violence is a completely insane reaction and proves that they're incapable of running a democratic country.

I work in customer service for Medicare, and it's so frustrating to hear the elderly bash Obama and his new "garbage about health care." Umm... who exactly do you think is paying for YOUR health insurance?? And I get that from Medicaid recipients too!

I have noticed that only the people who have insurance and think they could never lose it are super pissed off.

Then again, lack of empathy seems to be the most American attribute lately.

It is disgusting

Wow, your bitchiness shows through more and more each post. Awesome.

So we just passed a health care plan written by a committee whose chairman says he didn't understand it, passed by a Congress that exempts themselves from it, signed by a president who smokes, with funding administered by a treasury chief who didn't pay his taxes, all to be overseen by a surgeon general who is obese, and financed by a country that's broke? Am I incorrect in this?

Unknown said...

Yeah Anonymous, I saw that FB status update going around too. What you're lacking in originality you make up for in--something, I'm sure.

Anonymous said...

If I was trying to be original that might have hurt- a little. But coming from a deusch bag like you- notsomuch. I posted it 'cuz it's awesome. And I agree.

Unknown said...

A Deusch bag? Is that some sort of German purse? Sounds fancy!

I know people who get their news from Facebook status updates hate facts, but congress isn't exempt from the health care bill--they have employer provided health care (as they always have, provided by us) and have the option of opting in to a more affordable option, just like everyone else with employer provided health care now has a choice. But quick, put your fingers in your ears and yell "LALALALA U R A DEUSCHE!1! SOSHALIZM!!" before you learn something!

Oh Ashley, you're so fun! Thanks for making my day- ha ha ha ha! You ASSume so much and it really makes me giggle. But at least I'm having fun! : )
