Lost Sight

I had to go to the eye doctor today because one of my contact lenses ripped (and I'm way overdue for an appointment and out of contacts). I have an astigmatism--but don't worry, it's not my fault; I didn't do anything to cause that, it's just the way that God made me.

The eye doctor actually said those exact words. It's a good thing I was too blind to see his face because I think I would have laughed and he was being very serious. I just nodded and stared straight ahead.

He was also amazed with my decision making skills. You're so sure of yourself! So confident in your answers! The best decision-maker I've had in quite a while, you must always end up with perfect prescriptions.

Well...thank you. I do usually end up with contacts I can see out of, so I guess I do pretty well.

No really, you're excellent at this. People are never this sure.

We ended up doing it 3 different times with 2 different machines.

Which looks better: 1 or 2? 3 or 4? 3 or 5? 3 or 6? 7 or 8? Amazing. Now let's do it with this hand held machine, too. I hope you don't mind me taking up your time, it's just that I'm a perfectionist and I want this to be right for you. I want it to be perfect for you, like crystal-clear perfect.

Okay.

So he was nice and it was fun, if not a little awkward. I am annoyed with God for creating me in a way that hinders my ability to go home with contacts that day vs. waiting for them to be ordered. They gave me sample contacts to get me through, but they aren't the perfect, special crystal clear prescription that we worked so hard together for.

While I was paying, I set my glasses next to my purse because I was thinking, "I better not just throw my glasses into my purse and then they'll see how I abuse my glasses and try to force me to buy a case or new glasses or something else" because it's a factory-type of eye doctor place where they up sell everything. And then when I got home, I realized I didn't have my glasses.

When I called them to tell them that I left my glasses, she very matter-of-factly said, "Oh, they aren't here!"

So among thousands of pairs of glasses, you can state with absolute certainty that the ones I've left there are not there? I told her they were there and asked if she could take my name and number for when they turned up. This seemed hugely inconvenient to her.

I am afraid that my glasses will be lost among the sea of glasses and/or that the very people who want me NOT to have glasses (so that I have to buy theirs) now have my glasses.

So much for me and my excellent decision making!

Astigmatisms are so much fun, not! I have astigmatisms in both eyes and my left is so bad we can't even find contacts that allow me to see 20/20. I'm lucky if they have a trial pair for me to try when I get my exam, usually they have to order one.

I hate the 1 or 2 game, it is so annoying. I'm not like you though, I'm always wishy washy on my answers!

If you ever get the kizz-ash, I HIGHLY recommend LASIK. I had BAD astigmatism. Had to have those funky little contacts that were thick on one side that were supposed to fix it. I hated them and they never worked. Last summer I got LASIK which is ideal for people with astigmatism and it fixed it perfectly. I could see immediately. You should totally go for it when y'all get ahead. It's worth every penny.

Lasik = best thing ever! I still have to wear glasses when I'm working on the computer or reading a lot, but it is really awesome.

And yeah, you ain't never getting those glasses back.

My husband wants to get Lasik. He also has astigmatism and has been told that it is way more expensive when you have that. How much did you guys pay? I have heard anywhere from $600-$4000 per eye. Obviously I dont want him to go to some quack that will blind him forever, but $4000 per eye? DAMN.

God made me with a special astigmatism that is diagonal instead of horizontal or vertical (I don't know what any of this means) but I believe I'm extra special now. I'd love Lasik but once I decided I'd like to do it, I stopped having that kind of extra money around! Why didn't God make me a lottery winner instead?

Ok, if you really want a good laugh about going to the eye doctor that's clean enough to watch in front of your kids, check out "Brian Regan eye doctor" on you tube. So Funny

I paid $1000/eye, but I don't/didn't have an astigmatism. All my family had the surgery with 3 different doctors, and my brother's was the cheapest at just under $1500 total, but he went to Canada. It is ABSOLUTELY worth it though!

I find optometry a little questionable as a profession. They're basing my prescription on my ability to tell them 1 or 2, and sometimes that's hard. Then, on top of it, they're always trying to upsell me. Totally unlike my normal doctors who require begging to release a prescription. It makes me suspicious. I bet they'd sell me more glasses if they made me feel like I was forcing them to do it.
