Day 2: Shred

Uh yeah, this thing is kicking my ass.

I guess in a good way. There are muscles that hurt that I didn't even know existed, so I guess those muscles could use some work.

On Day 1, I went in with confidence. I'm not "in shape" per se, but I figured with it being a 20 minute video and me not being horribly out of shape, I'd be okay. I chase and carry little kid around a lot, I must be strong.

It started with push ups and I enthusiastically assumed push up position and almost knocked out my front teeth on the tile as my arms collapsed in protest that I would even try such a thing. I got it together for the modified push up and pushed through.

Just when I got to the "Oh hell no, not one more second" point, it was over! As I dragged my shaking body to the shower (where I sat) I tried to figure out what was so hard about it and really couldn't. It was only 20 minutes. Not too much of any one thing, a good little routine of stuff. But man. Man oh man oh man. I only shaved one underarm before going to the beach yesterday because I just couldn't make the other arm perform the necessary actions.

I thought no way I could do it again today, but I did. And again, when I got to the "Screw this" point, I was done. And again, I hurt like freaking heck. FREAKING HECK I TELL YOU. It hurts. I can't imagine I can do it again tomorrow. But I'll try.

That Shred kicks my ass too. I had it on Netflix and finally bought it at Target today, figuring the investment would mean a bit more than a rental.
I'm proud of you for doing the modified push up. Despite my two heavy boys, I can barely manage those, so you are starting out very well. You get to the point that you want to do bad things to Jillian, and if you're me you scream them at her while she is instructing, but she can't hear you. Plus, all these skinny chicks say it's so worth it. I've been on hiatus, but with school starting I am starting it over with you, so we'll see how it goes.

Yes, when we do the punching part--I am punching Jillian. Especially towards the end. I think she's kind of mean and she scares me a little. Not sure why, exactly.

I bought the DVD and am going to do this for the month of September. :) Thanks for the inspiration. Maybe you could set up a Closet Challenge for those of us who need to get our butts in gear and shape up.

Did you know that when your muscles hurt the day after a work out, your body is still burning calories? I HATE, HATE, HATE Jillian, but I may have to find this video and try it.

Good Job! you got right after it. I finally did my Shred on Saturday morning. (half ass did it)But was still very sore on Sunday and a little Monday too. So I will do it again sometime. But not excited enough to do it back to back. I am terrible. My soon to be 3 year old came in there when I was about half done and told me..."Mom, not that way." On several things. I had to laugh!

My $0.02 on the Shred...Rotate the levels each day. Her program centers on muscle confusion and I found it best to NOT do the same workout on back-to-back days. I just alternate 1-2-3.

I commented anonymously yesterday on starting it too...OMG...I totally agree. The first circuit is INSANE...and just when I'm about to stop, we move on to sit-ups..so I look at that as a bit of a rest...the second circuit through, I'm feeling pretty good..by that point all my old volleyball injuries are loosened up..then as we are wrapping up the third circuit, I'm beginning to cuss..I did it at 8am today...and just got up to go help my two year old on the potty and am SO STIFF..think I'll call the Mr and tell him to pick himself up something for dinner on the way home from work..I'M DONE...You realize that tomorrow is going to be EVEN WORSE...but if we can just get through tomorrow's work out, we should be ok..:-)

I'm tempted to buy it. I could use some muscle tone and it sounds like it's working every muscle in your body. But I'm very lazy. I think I'll just wait till you're done and see how happy you are with your results :-)

I second alternating your workouts. Totally works best, and you don't kill the same muscle groups day after day. And seriously, who knew a 20 min. work out could be sooo killer?! I hate/love her all at the same time.

I'm not really "inTO" excercise, if you know what I mean.... you know... I'm lazy.

I am so thrilled that you're posting about The Shred. It has been sitting in my DVD player for over a month. I've yet to do it.

You're motivating me. If you're feeling that rough, it has to be working right? Are you doing the beginner mode?

I swear, I'm gonna do it when I get home from work. And if I don't, then I'll get my arse out of bed early and do it in the morning before the child is awake. Really, I will.

BTW, I don't have school age kids, so I have no earthly idea what a car rider line is (it sounds frightening) so I think Groucho Marx being there is cool. Bring a little humor to those nasty child chasing teachers.

I tried this a few days in a row in January (right before I found out I was pregnant) and boy it did hurt. I remember sitting in the shower as well. I plan to start it for real sometime around the holidays and work this baby weight off. I'll be looking to you for inspiration!

"It only takes 20 minutes" is the selling point I've been using to convert everyone I know. Well, that, and it works.

Take a day off every few days.
