Farm Town

Is it wrong that I set Big Kid up with a facebook account just so he could help me harvest the crops in my virtual "Farm Town" farm?

To be fair, he's been wanting to play; hovering around me and mouth breathing while I do.

I locked down all of his security settings so no one can try to friend him, and used an alias and an email address no one knows. I also hid my wall posts from him so he can't stalk me.

I told him that he was ONLY to play on Farm Town, nowhere else. That he was NOT to start Facebooking at 6. Of course, we're one day into it and I keep hearing things like, "Facebook wants to know what's on my mind. Why can't I tell dem?" and "How 'bout I least get a picture of me and maybe I could get 1 friend?" and "Why isn't dere a Facebook for kids?"

So, there's a good chance this was a really bad idea, but he did just diligently harvest a very large field of mine and he sends me flowers every day.

I personally don't see anything wrong with virtual child slave labor.

I love farm town!!!! Its the best, but my hubby gets mad at me because he is a farmer.

He says I could do some manual labor, and I am like Naaah, I like having people work for me!

Wrong?! or brillant?!?! I was thinking the other day that I wish I had a kid old enough to set up with an account so that she could do it. And I have another friend that basically loans her kid out (on her account) to harvest her friends fields. Sounds pretty normal too me.

Umm, I have setup a facebook account for my unborn child just for the reason of farm town and mafia wars. Sad it is.

Oooo. Nice idea. I could get #3 to farm some stuff for me until things get rolling - or he goes off to school - whichever comes first.

Yeah, my 3 yr old is into some Farmville...until she starts clicking all sorts of stuff and I'm all "that's enough! The beans will be OK!"

I feel duped by the Farm Town/Farmville similarity. I think more of my friends are on Farmville but now I'm kind of committed to Farm Town and refuse to start over. Sucks.

I see people on my friends list who play Farmtown all of the time but I've never played it. Is it like the gardens on Webkinz that where you plant stuff, arrange your garden, water & harvest everything? What is it exactly?

Also, my 7 yr old has had a Facebook account for about 2 years & she uses it to keep in touch with her cousins in Germany, her sisters away at college & other family members. She is addicted! I've just been very careful about her settings & accessibility but so far it's been fine. She loves adding pictures, updating her status, etc. She sees my Myspace account & she's totally jealous that you can't customize backgrounds & stuff on Facebook but I refuse to allow her Myspace. Too many ads & nobody we know uses Myspace anymore.

Started an account for my 7 y.o. to play Farkle. It helps with numbers and counting so it can't be bad, right? ;)

Oh my...can I just tell you how absolutely THRILLED I am to know that another mom signed up her young child just to play the games! Sweet Son #1 is a few years older than Big Kid, but I did exactly the same thing. Privacy settings, separate email, alias, the whole nine yards. I won't even let him friend his grandma, b/c I told him FB is ONLY for playing FarmTown, YoVille and a few others. :)

my older dd is 5.5 and has a facebook account. she plays superpoke pets, farmville, farmtown, and pet society, and the prospect of computer time being earned or taken away is the best motivator i have.

i let her have a few friends that i know and approve, and she knows not to click any ads or chat with anyone. she asked me one day if she can at least tell people thank you for harvesting for her. :D

So you can hise your wall posts from just one person?? how'd you do that?

I had to go into his account and hit "Hide" on one of my wall posts in order to hide them from him. He could easily unhide them too, I'm afraid, if ever given any time to mess around on the Facebook interface.
