Wild Things

I know I said I was going to bed, but I saw a "Where the Wild Things Are" commercial and got ridiculously excited for the 90,000th time since this time last year when I found out the movie was being released.

An amazing, iconic book from my childhood, Maurice Sendak's brilliant creative inspiration and then I just recently found out that Dave Eggers wrote it?!? Fuck yeah. Did you all read a "Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius?" You should. It's a heartbreaking work of staggering genius. I loved it and I love him and finding out he wrote this movie was like the cherry on top of the proverbial banana split for me.

Every time I see the previews, I tell the boys that I'm taking them to see that. Big Kid sighs and says, "I know," because I guess he's sick of hearing it. little kid nods or ignores me and Mr. Ashley pretty much does the same. Mr. Ashley doesn't remember the book. (This is baffling to me.)

So, despite everyone else's lack of excitement, I'm taking them to see it Friday at the fancy-schmancy new rich people movie theater. And I cannot wait. I haven't been this excited about a movie in a long time.

It was one of the books my mom read over and over to us and still quoted "I'll eat you up I love you so" well into our adulthood. I am dying to see it but since she passed away 2 years ago, I am not sure I would make it through it! Let us know how it is!

I want to see it too but The Son says he doesn't, I think he's scared. I'm going to make him go anyway.

I can't wait to see it but I think I am going to have to wait for dvd because I cry at the previews. Last nights South Park had a "sneak peek" and I sobbed the entire time. I have no idea why either.

I'm so excited for you and cannot wait to hear your review!

When I first heard they were doing the movie I said I would have no desire to see it. Then I saw previews and realized they folks doing this movie love the book as much as I do and did their damnedest to get it right. The hardback edition was my first gift to DH back when we started dating, after a drunken discussion of it being THE best book. Ever. We both have old, worn WTWTA tee shirts with which we can't part, so...yeah, we'll be there.

Desiree, it's so funny you say that because I want to cry every time too. There's nothing sad about it either, I just feel so overwhelmed with nostalgia and emotion seeing it come to life that it makes me feel old and like a kid again all at the same time. My eyes are tearing up just typing that, lol! So funny!

We're a bunch of dorks, I guess.

Gretchen, you and I are soul sisters. It's so wrong we don't live closer. He's a FAN-TAST-IC writer with amazing character development.

I too have been excited since last fall's preview. I wish my LK would sit through it but I don't think he will. My girl is so so so excited!

I never was in to "little kid" books... I liked a few but I was more interested in Goosebumps and Laura Ingalls as a kid. So I remember the title of this, but not ever reading it.

The music alone has me wanting to see it though, the score sounds fantastic.

I don't remember this book either. I don't think this is one I had as a kid.

I cried during the previews, too. Glad to know that I am not the only one!

um, I heard it is scary, so big kid might get an ulcer. Little kid would probably laugh his ass off, as my kids did in Jurrasic Park, when the t-rex ate the guy on the toilet (god I was a bad Mom) any who...I had a post on Sendak today too!

I'm with you, I am way excited to see it tomorrow night. Just thinking about it makes me cry and I'm sure I will cry at the movie. I cherished that book as a kid. I took it to bed with me every night for 2 years. I did 'that' to my pajamas. That book is thee book that started me on a love affair with reading.
