Monopoly

I thought I'd introduce Big Kid to the joys of Monopoly tonight and vowed not to go easy on him, so he could learn all about strategy right from the start.

Twenty minutes into it and he owns Park Place, Boardwalk, 3 out of 4 railroads and at least one property in each decent area and is gleefully collecting rent, shrewdly analyzing potential investments and only deciding on purchases after inquiring about potential rental income vs. cost.

I own 3 measly properties and am yet somehow very near bankruptcy.

It's not as much fun as I'd hoped it would be.

P.S. I'm in jail right now.

I love checking in on you and your "big kid" He is a hoot and you parent him very well! He will thank you some day for documenting all of this, just no reality shows..k?

HA - it always happens in Monopoly - one person lives the high life and the other person goes down the tubes. My husband got so irritated that he was losing so badly one night, that he refused to mortgage his property to pay me rent - refused - ha! I needed the Monopoly police to put him in jail.

Sounds like you have a mini mogul there! I hate it though when you try to "teach" someone something and they end up kicking your butt!

I always loved playing board games as a kid and I couldn't wait until Baby Girl was old enough.... but now. She's too freakin' competitive. If she isn't winning then she cheats. And she's sneaky too. And I'm too competitive to let her win so it is just not a fun thing for us to do.

This kills me. But. If competitive Monopoly ever becomes a career option, he will have no one to thank but Mama. With tears in his eyes (Tiger Woods style, Father's Day 2003 or 4 - can't remember)... "This is for you, Mama. Thanks for teaching me everything I know 'bout Monopoly."
