Just Say Yes

Thanks to television advertising, I hear "Mom, can we get that?" or some variation thereof, about 900 trillion times a day. No exaggeration.

Lately, I just say "Yes" every single time. If they press the issue, I tell them we'll get it for Christmas.

The good news is that it works! Conversation ends every single time. Can we get that? Yep. Cool, thanks.

It is so easy.

The bad news is that one day Christmas will come. I had decided when that happened, I would just start saying, "Yes, for your birthday" but I'm afraid one day they will realize that they don't really get this stuff, and it will stop working.

That's hilarious. Baby Girl would totally call me on this. No way could I get it to work.

I absolutely love your labels. They are just as funny, if not funnier than your posts. You tie them together so well.

I f-word-ing love it. That's how much.

It will keep working - when they press it, just say yes, someday you will get that!!

Hahahaha...yeah, I use "Better write it on your list for Santa!" and stop listening. When I ask a couple days later to remind me what what SO!AWESOME! they had to bust into the bathroom on me they almost never remember, so I shrug and say, "Too bad you didn't write it down..."

Love it...happens EVERYDAY in my house..."Mommy, can I have this, can I have that"..I tell them "you can have it when you are 10" So now the almost 4 year announces while watching a commercial "Mommy says I can have that when I'm 10"...Hopefully she won't remember by then :-)

I do the exact same thing with my boys, except I verge on the ridiculous because I say it to darn near anything because I know that saying "no" means that I have to hear screaming and whining 99% of the time. Honestly, it really does work a lot. I think they just want to hear a positive response from us so much of the time and don't really want what they're asking for. I think it's a little mind game or something where they want to win, and if just saying "yes" means that they think they win then score for me.

I say almost the same thing. My standby is put it on your (insert list of choice here; birthday, Christmas, Easter) list. It usually stops the conversation and we can move on with our day.
