Queue

I just signed up for Netflix--what needs to go on my queue? (I just spent so long looking at the word 'queue' that it looks impossibly weird now, and it looked weird enough to begin with)

Documentaries, independent films, comedies, family friendly stuff, television series that I've missed--what are some of your favorites?

Ohhhh I think you'd love Born into Brothels, esp. as a photographer! You could get Family Guy series and go to bed whenever you wanted!! Did you see Slumdog Millionaire?

Vanity Fair
Weeds
Enchanted
One Night With the King
Letters from Iwo Jima
Pride & Prejudice
The Other Boleyn Girl

Those are several that I've watched (and kept) in my instant queue. I love Netflix but I wish they offered more instant options. I don't have the patience to wait for DVDs to be delivered.

This may be a weird sounding suggestion but I just saw The Wrestler with Mickey Rourke and I really liked it. I didn't think I would.

Did you ever see the Tudors series?

I know you like that time period, I think you'd like the show if you haven't seen it yet.

every once in a while I need a silly movie that doesn't require much thought. Bride Wars was surprisingly good in that group. Knocked Up was hilarious. Not sure what else is out, we canceled blockbuster online a while back.

I have 'The Boy in the Striped Pajamas' in my queue right now per recommendation of another blogger stranger/virtual friend. I'll let you know if it's worth it!

Arrested Development.

Jason Bateman is totally brilliant with his dry humor. The rest of the cast is amazing, too. Even a young Michael Cera.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE watch it as soon as humanly possible.

I haven't seen a new movie in ages so I can't help you there, but I spent 15 minutes earlier today trying to figure out the correct way to spell queue because it didn't look right to me either!

Mad Men, Season 1 & 2. Season 3 is about to start (Aug. 16th). Great writing and characters.

Lost in Austen: A thoroughly modern heroine threatens to ruin one of the world's greatest literary love stories in thei ingenious reinvention of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. Bored bank worker Amanda Price literally becomes lost in her favorite Austen book after she finds a strange portal in her bathroom and swaps places with it's heroine, Elizabeth Bennett.

Loved it.

What I've watched recently and would recommend:

Role Models - total juvenile slapstick humor
Slumdog Millionaire - wiggles a spot in your soul
Gran Torino- Clint Eastwood is still awesome!
Benjamin Button - gets mixed reviews among my friends - I personally loved
The Man with Two Brains - oldie but goodie Steve Martin
Pride & Prejudice - doesn't do Mr. Darcy justice but good enough to keep DH's mouth shut

Coraline - really liked and Blockbuster sells the 3d glasses for .15 when your lk wants to keep his
Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium - love it
Enchanted - watched over and over
Marley & Me - I personally thought it sucked but my 4yo has watched it every single day since Christimas.

-Six Feet Under, Arrested Development, and Weeds are my favorite TV shows. Arrested Development is my all time favorite!

-The Bridge (about the Golden Gate bridge) is very sad but strangely interesting too.

-I agree with the person who suggested Born Into Brothels, I loved it!

-The Seven series (Seven Up/7 Plus Seven). It follows a group of kids through their lives starting at the age of 7 and every 7 years after that. I think it goes up to age 49 now.

-The Diving Bell and The Butterfly
-A Walk to Beautiful
-Sweet Land
-Seven Pounds
-Country Boys

Old Family Movies:
Princess Bride - Tons of quotable lines
Secondhand Lions
Holes
Short Circuit - silly but lots of quotable lines with accents!
Wallace & Gromit - Any movie title (claymation)
Pushing Daisies - TV series

Non-kid Movies:
Dogma - bloody gory and gross, but if you can get past that, it really makes you think out of the box about religion
Brother from another planet - very old, B&W, kind of weird but very cool, might be tough to find
My Life as a Dog - the subtitled version is best as the native Scandinavian language (not sure if it's Swedish or Norwegian) is very musical and somehow adds to it...

I agree with Megan (and not just because she's my daughter)... ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT IS A MUST SEE! You can get caught up on the series before the movie comes out next year.

Supernatual, TV series. Scary and funny and basically wonderful in all ways imaginable, and they're both adorable.

11:14 is pretty good, I liked it a lot.

If I have BK pegged right, I think he's a LOT like me when I was little, Oliver! was always a favorite. Still is. Funny Girl, too, but that's more of a girl story.

Lets see... other childhood favorites of mine.. Once Upon a Forest, Ferngully, the Zorro series with Guy Williams (my first love, him and Jack Wild).

Pan's Labyrinth is also excellent, if you don't mind the subtitles. Not child-appropriate though.

Movie - Murder Ball (Documentary, check it out)

TV - Coupling (The British Version, all 4 seasons, but 3 is the best)

Agree w/ others on Arrested Development, Mad Men, Weeds

How I Met Your Mother

Newest Obsession - Deadliest Catch (hours of crab fishing, who knew?)

Looking forward to everyone else's recommendations, too!

Spellbound (doc)

The office! I finished all 5(?) seasons in a few weeks! For documentaries, I love anything by Michael Moore. An inconvenient truth was amazing. For comedy, pineapple express, kinda stupid but cracked me up. And James Franco makes it so worth it :)

have you seen "Man on Wire?" that's the best documentary i've seen in a while. speaking of docs, "The King of Kong" is my favorite (even if you're not interested in watching two grown men battle for the Donkey Kong world record)

and i agree with the commenters who suggested "Mad Men." best written show on tv!

I second some of the above posts - Six Feet Under!!! Love, love, love those characters! I spent one whole summer while I was pregnant watching episodes every night.

I also like Big Love, Entourage and Weeds.

Big Fish, Mr. Magorium..., Slumdog Millionaire, Crash

You guys are awesome as usual.

Saw Slumdog--fantastic movie. Beautifully shot, amazing actors, best movie I've seen in a while.

Saw The Wrestler--I agree that it was surprisingly good. Very well directed, I loved some of the details.

Mad Men--one of the best shows on TV.

I saw every episode of 6 Feet Under and still mourn the loss of that awesome show. I also loved Dead Like Me, it was cute and clever.

Born into Brothels was excellent.

Marley and Me was good if you're a masochist. I couldn't get into Gran Torino.

We just saw Knowing with Nicholas Cage and it was suspenseful and interesting.

Step Brothers and Pineapple Express are the two funniest movies I've seen all year. I love ridiculously funny stuff like that.

Benjamin Button was a work of art! I didn't want to like it, but it was beautiful.

There are some really good suggestions here that I wouldn't have thought of on my own. Keep them coming!

Moonlight - another vampire series this one was on CBS and cancelled after one season because of the writers strike. SOOOOO GOOD! The vampire in this - oh my! Love it!

Sorry - just noticed I have a thing for vampires. Need counseling since Twilight! ha

Not sure what this says about me, but most of my memorable movies have been heartbreaking in some way or another- The Wrestler, The Reader, Into the Wild, Milk, Sicko, City of God, and Mystic River.

I also liked Forgetting Sarah Marshall (male full frontal!), Let the Right One In, Devil's Playground, Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price (sorry, again, I can't help it), Waitress, and Super Size me.
