Hula Hoop

If you're 30 and you can't hula hoop, can you learn?

I think it's the sort of thing that you can either do, or you can't, like dancing, and I think that I can't.

I was talking to a personal trainer about what a great work out it is and other than bending over to pick it up 300 times, I just don't think it would work for me.

Hula Hooping on wii fit takes care of the pesky picking up the hoop off the floor problem. Plus everyone looks like a freakin' pro at it on wii! And as an added entertainment bonus, there are hoops tossed at you and you catch them with your head. Or in my case, they hit you on the head.

It is a good workout tho!

If you chose a heavier one (one with water in it) it's much much easier. It is a great workout and I didn't learn until I was 25!!

I'm thinking it's like spelling. Some people can, some can't. I'm squarely in the can't column, but can spell like nobody's business. Which does nothing whatsoever for the size of my ass, but still...

Brown Eyed girl is right - the hula hooping in Wii is great. However, I cannot for the life of me bend over far enough to catch another one on my head as the other Miis are chucking them at me.

Can't hoop in real life. I can spell wicked good though.

Oh hula hooping is loads of fun; I haven't done that in years. I can't keep it going for more than a few minutes before I drop it though. hmm I may just check out that Wii Fit.

I think hula hooping is a genetic thing like rolling your tongue. Either you have it or you don't.

That's what I tell myself to feel better.

If you have to keep bending over to pick it up, think of it as vertical crunches. Thats how I think because then i dont have to pick my big butt off the floor

WiiFit hula-hoop IS pretty awesome. The trick to catching the ones chucked at you is to raise your arm w/the controller in that direction while lifting your opposite foot...while continuing to rotate your hips. (I now catch maybe 75% vs the former 0%.) The more you catch, the quicker your "Spins" counter clicks up, too!

Dunno where one would go to learn IRL hoop skills. My mum, at 63, can still keep it going making my average ability look sad. She claims it's all the Twist dancing she did ;)

Never say can't. I've been teaching myself to hoop (with an adult sized hoop and a little help from youtube videos). Way way way way more fun than wii fit hooping. I'm amazed what I can do. I never could hoop with a kiddie hoop either. Same as you, I thought it wasn't something I can do. A couple of days and I was doing tricks. You can make your own hoop with irrigation tubing from home depot.

If you decide to give it a shot, do not weight your hoop with water or sand. You may lose more weight, but they bruise you like crazy.
