Christmas Card

Big Kid just figured out the plan for the Christmas card (I'm pulling the photos for it now), and he's really ticked. He's reading this over my shoulder as I write and he's ticked I'm writing about him, and I'm kind of ticked I have to watch my mouth, he's about to go his room.

It involves photos of various shenanigans him and his brother have gotten up to over the year and he can't believe that I not only refuse to delete these unflattering photos, but that I would dare use them on our Christmas card...

I feel a little bad--but it's a super funny idea and I always do funny cards. I didn't know he'd take it so personally though....that's not very Christmas-spirit like to make your kid cry over being featured in the family Christmas card.

However, I am the boss, and it's the cheapest, easiest way, plus I've had it planned out all year. The Christmas card ordeal is usually not a collaborative effort, it's sort of a "what Ashley says goes since she does all the work" deal.

Would it be wrong to do it behind his back?

edited to add: He'll see the humor in it in a couple of years...

Based on your description of Big Kid, and how important it is to follow the rules, and how he doesn't want to be friends at school with the kids that called out for "bad" behavior, I think it would cause too much angst for Big Kid.

Little Kid is the type of kid that will someday be proud of the grief he has caused you, and will brag about.

How about showing pics of Little Kid's shenanigans and showing Big Kid always behaving, just sitting there being Mr. Prim and Proper. It'd be funny, and subtle, and not humiliate Big Kid yet (he'll get it a few years from now).

Yeah, he'll get over it - but not before being scarred for life!!

Hmm thats kinda hard since he's totally old enough to understand that your doing it even though he's totally against it. I agree that Little Kid would love it but I'm thinking that it will cost you (in theapy bills) later on with big kid. You'll have to post it for us though.

You could also explain to Big Kid that if he hadn't done anything "bad" throughout the year then there would be nothing to put on the card so it's kinda his own fault. Better be good next year Big Kid!!

I wouldn't do it. I think a child's self-esteem is just too fragile.

But then, I don't know you or your kids IRL, so what do I know?

I'm sure you're right, though. I'm sure it's funny :-)

Oh please. The kid'll be fine! Save a copy because you WILL laugh later on! We have to have a sense of humor about LIFE! When we don't things are definetly not as fun!!
