And then there were two....

My fucking chicken is gone.

Scarlett has disappeared without a trace, she was outside in the superyard baby pen an hour ago. I put them out there every day, open the house windows and go out there when I hear a commotion. I didn't hear anything at all, just decided to go out there and check on them and she is not there. I didn't hear anything, don't see any feathers, dogs were in, cats were in, she's just gone.

I'm so sad, frustrated and mad at myself. I'm having a real "can't do anything right" kind of week. Or maybe life.

Damn, how hard should it be to keep 3 chickens as pets? I should do the others a favor and put them on Craigslist.

And for the record, I fucking HATE living in the woods. We built out here because Mr. Ashley promised me a huge, well landscaped yard with paths and squirrel feeders. Ha ha freaking ha. Nary a path or squirrel feeder in sight, 6 years later. Nary a chicken coop either. Damn it.

Did she finally figure out she can fly (a very little bit)? Maybe she's wandering out in the woods... Or the other chickens killed her and buried the body. Or little kid did something devious. Here chicken chicken chicken!!!

The little tard babies HAVE figured out they can fly. Usually they make a bunch of racket and I go out and find one of their dumb asses perched on the top of the enclosure and I shoo them back in. She is NOWHERE though. I'm thinking maybe a hawk got her. But wouldn't I have heard something?? They squawk up a storm if a dragon fly comes near them, I would think a hawk would get them going. Fuckers.

Oh and Clemsongirl, I would LOOOOOOVE to meet you. I'm trying to figure out what next week's plans are.

Maybe she just quietly escaped and she'll wander back home tonight! And I agree, tomorrow is a new day!

Mrs. de Miranda, I think that's being AWFULLY chipper...tard babies are tard babies. Oh, I'll burn in hell for that one but it's the truth. I think that's really weird that you didn't hear a sound. Did you go tho the bathroom? 30 seconds turning on the washing machine? Anything?

I'll burn with you Coco because I LMAO at that.

There's definitely a possibility that I was doing something noisy and didn't hear it, I just can't believe there were no feathers, no sign of a struggle, no other upset chickens (although, luckily they only have 5 second attention spans), nothing.

I have a tortoise that I take outside on sunny days and let him eat grass. He has a little enclosure I banged together with a wooden frame and chicken wire with a top. Nothing can get him, maybe you could get Mr. Ashley to throw something together. Sorry for your loss....my two bantam roosters got eaten by a skunk when I was younger, it sucks.

yes, on the "s-m-r-t" scale, chickens are right down there below goldfish, and only beat out cows and rocks. Put something shiny in your yard, maybe she'll be drawn to it like a bug zapper. Hehehehe

They can fly. My chick is around the same age as yours and she flies in the roof at night to sleep. We have had a rooster disappear over night. He came back the next day. Hopefully she will wander back home today. Chickens can not see at night so maybe she didn't get far.
