We did it! We did it! I can't believe I'm alive for this moment in history. I am so proud of this country. Finally, after 8 years!

Finally someone who shares my excitement! My husband and I are the only democrats in our entire family. We got calls shortly after 11 from family members saying we were no longer part of their family because we were Obama supporters.

It's a shame it has to come down to that - I voted for who I voted for. It's all said and done, family, so get over it.

I really hope this is a good change for America.

Hey "Becs"...Just a little clue, Palin wasn't running for President. If that is solely the reason you voted for Obama, shame on you. 47% of the country is NOT HAPPY w/ the election results. I will support the President of The United States because he has been elected fairly, but I am anxiously awaiting the short period of time for the Obama supporters to become disenchanted w/ their candidate. Oh and in case you missed it, for the woman on CNN last night who said, "Thank God, Obama can pay my mortgage and pay for my gas." You are sadly mistaken. He won't be doing either. I will.

I love how everyone likes to hold up one idiot as being the shining example of every democratic candidate. Do you Republicans even want to go there, with the McCaniac who killed a teenager over a campaign sign, the lunatic that carved a B into her face, the woman not giving candy to kids on Halloween if their parents liked Obama?? Give me a break.

Secondly, Sarah Palin LOST THIS RACE for McCain. 47% is just not enough and now that 47% knows how the majority of us felt when the election was stolen last time. Except this time it wasn't stolen, it was a LAND-SLIDE, politically speaking.

Palin was the first big decision McCain made that proved he wasn't concerned enough for the welfare of this country. He ran a nasty, unsavvy, uninspiring campaign and him and his 47% are going to have to let the other side have a turn now.

Better luck in 4 years, hopefully that party learned something in the last 8.

Unknown said...

Oh, and you're anxiously awaiting the time that our president fails us as a country so that you can be right? How very American of you. Keep it classy, anonymouses of the world.

I am super happy as well.

I am one of those unreliable young voters. As I was playing video games last night I was streaming in the CNN coverage onto my laptop.

At 26 years old its the first time I have ever voted. Obama inspired me to get out and that I can make a change.

There is no telling if Obama will be able to turn the country around or even if he will do a good job.

What he did do was motivate me to move. I am now taking an active interest in politics and how these choices will effect me. Make no mistake my vote will have to be reckoned with from here on out.

Obama did do that. And I have a feeling I am not the only one.

The one anon who said their family has disowned them???... I am so sorry to hear that.

My daughter has lost a few of her girlfriends (keep in mind, she is 10 years old) because their Republican parents won't let them play with her anymore. I thought that was bad, but having family be that ignorant toward you, is just really really sad.

Maybe when things turn around and it becomes obvious to everyone that trickle down never worked, they will lighten up. I hope.

As for the racists... we are all better off without them in our lives anyway. They all need to just move to Alaska.

Yipee!
And to anon., so sorry your family is behaving like that! My father told me I was going to hell for voting the way I did!

I'm going to keep my pregnancy hormones in check and not comment on comments for this one!!

I do want to say, however, that I am incredibly proud to be an American! I am happy that my next child will come into this world with Obama as our president. And we all know that we are in for some rough times because we are already there. I don't expect that the Obama administation will be able to fix everything in four years but it will get better.

And the other thing I'm extremely excited about is our new first lady. Michelle Obama is a fantastic role model for our daughters.

YAY!

Maddness of Me said...

The person who thinks they will be paying for others, is obviously in the category making over $200k a year. I am with you but can't really sympathize. Most people in this category know we need to start paying our fair share. Trickle down has never worked. It is exactly what has gotten us in situations like this, going back to 1776 for crying out loud.

If you're not in that category, then you are about as misinformed as Joe The Plumber and you need to settle the hell down.

Preppy Pettit said...

So proud, my heart swells. And Ashley? Have you thought about banning anonymous? I did, if you are going to comment, I better know who you are!

Anonymous said...

Ashley...It is difficult to see that posting a comment different from your view point is seen as wrong. It is just the facts. Not ALL of the US voted for Obama, only a little over one half. I was simply giving the example because it was just that, an example. If you would have read my comment a little more carefully, you would have seen that I AM going to support the president who won fairly. A landslide is NOT the case, but a win nonetheless. There are millions of examples both good and bad for BOTH sides of this election. I certainly am not going to debate that. Just as ONE idiotic democrat can not speak for your party, one idiotic republican can not speak for mine. I was simply trying to remind everyone that we are a VERY easily disenchanted society. I am certainly not hoping to see Obama fail as a President, I never said that. I was saying w/ my comment is that I will wait to see how supporters respond when changes are not made immediately.

I have been reading your blog for a very long time. I enjoy it. I have never made a comment on a blog before, but I felt I needed to remind everyone that the ENTIRE country is not thrilled and there will need to be time for approx half of the people to accept that their candidate did not win. It is the same w/ every election.

For the commenter who sympathized with me but said, "If you're not in that category, then you are about as misinformed as Joe The Plumber and you need to settle the hell down." I don't feel I was "riled up" in the first place. Just giving my opinion. Yes...I am in that category. So, sympathize away.

If you've been here a long time, I would think you would know that commenting anonymously with an opposing viewpoint while holding up one idiot as your proof that this is why you're so affected and then saying you're eager to see the majority not get what they are hoping for/voted for/believe in would be considered wrong. We're unfair and unbalanced like that around here.

We've had several commenters notorious for disagreeing with me, all who sign their names, all who know there's a good chance I'll respond with my opposing argument, many who provide thought provoking reasoning. The approach was all wrong here.

I never even said you were "wrong", just how your line of reasoning is skewed and how Palin had a major effect on voters, even if you don't like to think so. I'm sorry one stupid Obama voter managed to get herself on tv saying something stupid.

Don't make her our poster child, plenty of stupid people get on tv every day.

Maddness of Me said...

Anon, seriously, you are in that category and you are complaining about having to pay more taxes, out loud?

Maybe you need to change your lifestyle or something if it is a problem for you to pay your fair share.

I have no problem with it, consider it my patriotic duty, and do not sympathize with you.

Maddness of Me said...

Melody posts her opposing comments all the time, without the cloak of anon, and Ashley accepts them for what they are, opposing viewpoints.

I know I haven't been as tactful as a commenter (and I regret it), but to say that Ashley doesn't take opposing viewpoints is just not true.

I think this election is causing everyone to be on edge, and read more into words than they need to. I know I am guilty of that.

Does it really matter if I leave my first name, seriously? That's ridiculous. My name is Beth. There. Kimberly...I am not complaining about paying my "fair share." That is what I WANT to do, not pay more because I have been monetarily successful. Believe me, I come from a family who had nothing, so I get it. But now that I have found success financially in my employment, it's difficult for me to see the reasoning in taking care of others who have not found that success...yet. I give more than my share to charities, hospitals, non-profit organizations and the like. I am certain more than most. So, to make assumptions about me and my lifestyle are unfair and unwarranted.

Sorry that my approach was wrong. I am not a blogger and am not familiar w/ the protocol, but its noted. I will create a google account, pick a user name and use it from here on out. You bloggers are hard core.

Unknown said...

You don't even have to create a blogger account. You can just put your name in the box, or even just say

-Beth

It gives you a little more credibility. I don't care how you comment, I do allow anonymous comments but it turns out most of them end up being turds. So if you post an opposing viewpoint anonymously with shoddy reasoning behind it, someone may think you're being a turd.

And I'm not (necessarily) calling you a turd, Beth, just showing you what all added up to me thinking you were "wrong".

Maddness of Me said...

On your way up, you benefit from people doing better than you paying their fair share. Now it's your turn. It's just the way it works and it is the beauty of being American. I would rather be here, and pay it, that be back there fighting my way up.

I'm not trying to bash you, really. It probably sounds like it, but I'm not.

The beauty of this country is that we *can* get to a place where we make a comfortable living. There are plenty of governments that don't let you. For that reason, I have no problem with paying more. Otherwise, there will be people who suffer, as we are seeing now.

It's the American Dream baby.

Maddness of Me said...

... writing something like
"Palin wasn't running for President. If that is solely the reason you voted for Obama, shame on you"

is about as "hard core" as anything I have seen here in the Closet.

and was a HUGE conclusion to jump to... so maybe you want to be more careful before you start pointing fingers? maybe? I don't know... it's up to you.

I'm just trying to understand something Anonymous said..."47% of the country is NOT HAPPY w/ the election results." Big deal. Really. When Gore lost the Electoral College but WON the popular vote, over 50% of the country who voted FOR Gore were certainly NOT HAPPY. Think about it. Really - Gore had more votes, but Bush won. Absurd. And look at the *wonderul* job W has done - our economy is the worst it's been in years, unemployment continues to rise and the surplus Clinton left is LONG gone as our deficit reaches higher and higher into the absurd.

It's an election. Someone wins, someone has to lose. I'm going with the 53% that IS HAPPY. Give it time girl. Obama will make change happen, and I'm certain he'll "reach across party lines" to help Americans, and I bet he'll even have the Maverick help too.

Guess Anon didn't like your last post. I DID! LOL! Kinda trippin' over the fact that Anon seems to secretly want OBAMA to fall on his face then tried to cover up the statement with support. hmmmmmmm. Anyway, to each her own and I respect her opinion. A bit of a sore loser, but all the same (shrug). Thank GOD for Obama!
