Middlesex

I finally finished Middlesex today.

Man, it was a fantastic book, but I think some chapters could have been skipped. It got a little Steinbeck-esque with all the descriptiveness and I love me some Steinbeck. It just made it take a little longer to get through and makes it easier to put down.

Now I want to google for information about hermaphrodites, because I love researching about what I just read, but I know it would be a bad idea. A really bad idea probably. Which makes me even more tempted. You know I'll regret it. I know I'll regret it.

I bet I'll do it anyway.

You can't just leave well enough alone, can you? Oh, well, you'd probably regret it if you didn't do it, too, so you may as well go for it, right?

I've heard that book is really good. Right now you have me reading Snow Flower and The Secret Fan.

makes my feet hurt just thinking about it.

I liked it but didn't love it. It was too long and way too descriptive for my liking; way too Steinbeckesque for my liking, too, I think. dry....

Did you know that slugs are hermaphrodites? They have intercourse at the same time and impregnate each other simultaneously. Fascinating stuff.... but you've probably learned all of this already. in your research tonight.

We have an intersexed person in our family. I feel lame for not having read this book.

Oh, I enjoyed Middlesex. A little, ummmm, different, but really a good book. Step away from the google Ashley, step away.

I read it a few years ago...It made me a little crazy. I started thinking about people in my life who had the potential to be hermaphrodites. Example: she/him at the post office. I too, googled. Big mistake. Word on the street is Jamie Lee Curtis is a herm. (Thought you might enjoy that nugget.)

I was in a book club a few years ago that read this when it came out. I was the only one in the group who finished it and I couldn't stand it.

But, glad to know someone out there liked it :-p I think when you start right off with inbreeding... eh, it kind of loses my interest.

Color me impressed! I tried, and then tried again, to get thru it but just couldn't. And then felt like a total failure b/c it won some big award.
*sigh*
