Hellish Half Day

Today was a "half day" at school. How is it that a half day at school = LONGEST.DAY.EVER for me?

It doesn't seem fair. This is their job now. You don't get half days, especially not the week before a three day weekend. How much of this do they think they can pawn off on me? Not cool.

After fighting with little kid for way too long, I gave him my new silver bangle bracelets. I hear them scattering around on the wood floors occasionally and there's about a 0% chance of me getting them all back, but whatever. I'd give him a stack of diamond tennis bracelets to buy myself a couple minutes to think.

Both boys are also exhausted and crabby and fighting. I'm about to set up a cage match. Out in the garage, or somewhere else I won't have to see or hear it. I'm going to go lay the smack down on both of them in a serious way. They are both crying and shoving/pulling/wrestling over a plastic grocery cart. Sweet Jesus.

I never understood the reasoning behind 1/2 days---why not just add them up and give whole days off--extend weekends, holidays, etc. One of life's great mysteries I guess??

The reasoning? at least with public schools, absences are counted at 9:30 and they get funding for every day the kids are in school. so leaving after 9:30 does not count as an absence.

trust me, though. they suck for teachers, though. any disruption sucks for teachers. and you are more exhausted at the end of those four hours than you are at the end of eight because the kids are nuts and you try to cram everything in.

This was funny! But I'm not laughing too hard cause these things tend to boomerang. And I've got Parent Night at school tonight - perfect opportunity to come back on me.

And so help me, hubs better show up on time (unlike the Back to School Picnic) and not leave me to wrassle them both alone. In a pencil skirt and heels.

I understand half-days at the end of the quarter (like we have them here) to give teachers a few extra hours to work on tallying grades, but why on earth would BK's school have a half day during the second week of school? And on a Thursday? What about any of that makes sense?

I hate half-days, too... Somehow I am MORE worn out from working LESS... someone should check into that!

Usually a half-day this early in the year means that the teachers spent the afternoon in professional development/in-service meetings. If it's anything like a lot of the pd/inservice sessions I've attended, the teachers would much rather have a whole day with the kids.

Isn't kindergarten a half day anyway? I must be confused. But I'm not used to Florida schools, and my last experience with Kindergarten was when I was 5, so I am so not an expert!

We have an early day EVERY Wednesday. Even though I'm not working, my son will be going to the after care program EVERY Wednesday.

We also have a half day EVERY wednesday, it sucks ass!! Most of the kindergarten classes around here have gone to full days so that is a plus at least.
