Date Set

Okay, everyone. Breathe, just breathe.

I have an interview. On Wednesday. The ONE day this week I said I couldn't do it is the one day that they really want to do it. Okey doke.

Big Kid has a birthday party that he has been anticipating for a month. It's about an hour away from here at this really cool new place that just opened. It is on Wednesday morning.

To make everyone happy, I will have to wake up early to get ready, pray for a kick ass hair day, and bring interview clothes and make up in the car with me, just in case I have to have my mom meet me at the interstate for the pass off in order to make it there in time.

These are not ideal conditions.

Anyway, what will I wear? I need to look professional, but also like the pretty, popular, trendy mom. What do those people wear?

Let's start with what you have and build from there. I have a pair of super cute Kate Spade sand color d'orsay patent leather heels you can have for it! SO that means you can have any color suit to go with them, pants or a skirt. LMK!

Congratulations! I know that this will go off without a hitch. As far as what to wear goes do you have a nice outfit from Ann Taylor? That always works for me when I interview.

I have no clue mainly because I am not trendy poular or any of that. I am a boring SAHM that at 2:30 is in a junky tshirt and junky shorts that I may or may not have slept in:)

Hey, didn't you start this blog off by giving clothing advice? You should know better than I what to wear to this interview. I've been in nothing but jeans and t-shirts for nearly eleven years now.

OK, so I don't know exactly what type of position you are applying for... but I interview people quiet often, and I have to say, I get really distracted by clothes some of my interviewees are wearing.
To stay safe, go with a power suit, but to show your fun creative side, wear a funky t or tank underneath, something colorful, and maybe some a bright heel... IMO
GOOD LUCK!

If you wear a dress, then it should have no cleavage and it should not be sleeveless. Also, professional means panty hose unfortunately.

If you have or can get your hands on a short sleeve suit (either pant or skirt), that would be ideal. With a cute little top underneath.

Try to keep the heels to 2.5 inches.

... sounds like you could probably do a dressy short sleeve blouse and skirt too.

I say something like this..

with some cute straight/wide leg slacks in tan or black. And maybe a simple silver chain?

I really miss the corporate world.

You've received some good suggestions, so I can't think of anything else to add. A good power suit with a subtle kick to it such as a scarf or bright tank or tee underneath sounds like a great idea to me.

Good luck with everything on Wednesday!

Congrats on the interview!

Do you have a NY and CO near you? Super cute, trendy, professional clothes, with awesome clearance sales. You can get $40 slacks on clearance for $8.

Here's a professional-yet-sexy skirt and shirt look:

Good luck with the interview! I think you should post a picture of the interview outfit so we can see what you ended up going with.

Hope your day doesn't end up being too stressful!

I have just found you this week from someone's link to your living poor post (sorry I can't remember who, but then I can't remember what I had for breakfast an hour ago, so it's just par for the course for me). You ROCK! I have just subscribed (but don't worry, will actually visit and comment, so don't hate me yet).

Sounds like a huge test and I am sure you will do fine! :)

As far as what to wear, I'd say nice slacks and maybe a twinset? Is that too soccer mom? I'm 202 days from being a mom, but it's my go to outfit when I don't want to seem too stuffy!

I'm with catfish.

P.S. Keep her shoes.

Ashley! This is fabulous news! What a fab mom you are to make the party and get to the interview. You'll do great no matter what you wear!

No panty hose, no way, no how. The only people in South Florida who wear panty hose are bankers and hooters girls, and they only do because they have to.

I also don't think I'll wear a suit. So far I'm thinking pants and a dressy top and good shoes and accessories. I'm off to check Ann Taylor and those other links now.

Catfish does have awesome shoes and yes, it'd be hard not to keep them ;-) All of my good shoes are from Catfish.

It's in writing, right? Creative field? You have much more leeway. The best thing you can probably do is-do you remember what the woman wore who interviewed you (the probably already a closet reader?). Wear something similiar to that. Think about what EVERY ONE else was wearing in the office and go along those lines. The way to stand out is have an unusual or unique accesory (belt, necklace, scarf, etc.) just to make it yours. Maybe something from Etsy? Another great place for bohemian little pieces is Anthropologie which you can find on the web, too. Good luck!
