Gigapedia.org

So one of our brilliant commenters has directed me to Gigapedia.org for free e-books. I am very excited about this, and I think I could possibly even adjust to reading books electronically (not full time, I need books in the bath tub) but I can't figure out how to get to the actual text of the book!

Someone please help me. I'm in need of some fiction.

edited to add: You have to register. They should tell you that though. Now I'm all set and oh-so-excited about these free books.

I can't help you with that site, but I did want to recommend another free book site--www.manybooks.net

I've successfully downloaded stuff from there for my Kindle, but I think you can do regular downloads to a laptop, too. Good luck!

Ohhh do you like your Kindle?? They look really cool but still seem expensive.

Gigiapedia is addictive! The only downside is that most of the sites where these files are hosted limit you to how much you can download an hour/day. The easiest & fastest way to download them is to have a Rapidshare account which you have to pay for but it's unlimited downloads. You're welcome to use mine if you'd like.

I'm not sure if you figured this out or not but when searching gigipedia for a book you're suppose to tick the "item search".

They are expensive, I bet they will come down in price in the next year or two by quite a bit like the GPS units did...and it is super-tempting to download lots and lots of books from Amazon and rack up a huge bill. But it is super cool and I love it. Love.it. I can get a new book whenever I want (although my husband seems to think that I need to stick to the FREE books).

Have you heard of bookmooch? It is an online book swap - all you do is sign up (free) and list books you are ready to get rid of. Then you make your list. All you do is pay when you ship out YOUR books. I have gotten several books and if you sign up, let me know and I will give you a smooch..that's not creepy, that's a point to get your first book on your list. I have gotten some great ones... www.bookmooch.com

Books in the tub are good, I guess, but I prefer sex in the shower.

I totally did not know about Gigapedia.

I am about to get a Kindle though. My friend has one and loves loves loves it.

She is the perfect candidate for it though. Loves to read the New York Times (now she can reach over to her nightstand and read it first thing when she wakes up). She needed an intervention before with all the books in her house. She is on the board of a library... yada yada yada.

Suffice it so say she is way in to reading. Loves her Kindle.

FYI... didn't know if everyone knows the Kindle was lowered to $350 recently.

Still, seems like they should be less with all the money they get from book sales.

Just register and then a Links-Tab will appear that shows you the actual download links. Very convenient! Gigapedia rulez!

Without paying thousands of dollars i feel you should download from www.gigapedia.org (2nd Biggest amount of ebooks they store after Amazon and number 1 in terms of Free Ebooks. There are more then 50,000 Best seller Ebooks Free) than after downloading print the book by printer and bundle and get that book...It is easy and cost effecting

Gigapedia mainly gives link to ifile.it which does not need any log in and you can download and resume and use download accelerator software like Orbit Downloader

But from 2nd January 2009 gigapedia.org site will be changed and they will stop this site and open a brand new site...so hurry up
