Magical Microwave

I think I told you all about my Orville Redenbacher's popcorn diet.

As I was preparing my popcorn lunch today, I noticed a button on my microwave that says "popcorn". I figured I would give it a try, since I often overcook or undercook the popcorn (99% of the time) and pushed the button. It said "SENSING" and cooked for a while, producing...THE PERFECT BAG OF POPCORN.

I'm not even exaggerating. I was so impressed I made another bag (because Big Kid ate too much of my popcorn) and VOILA, same thing.

Is this as unbelievable as I think it is? Will it work on any size bag of popcorn, or did I luck out? How does it sense anything?

Does this mean if I put a potato in there and push the baked potato button, it would just make me a baked potato? Presumably the pizza button reheats pizza?

Do you even know how many phone calls to Mr. Ashley this is going to cut down on?? I will no longer suffer moments of panic while wondering how long something should be microwaved for.

It's a really exciting discovery. I can't believe it's taken me this long to find it.

Ahhh - I too LOVE the food buttons on my Advantium microwave oven. I always add about 30 seconds to my popcorn setting at the very end so more will keep popping. But, it's almost perfect without doing so. And, yes, it will reheat your pizza perfectly without getting a soggy crust, etc. I love it. Yes, it's the little things.

I lack the ability to make microwave popcorn. I burn it Every.Single.Time.

My microwave also has the Popcorn button, but that also produces burnt popcorn. It's like the microwave doesn't want me to have popcorn.

I didn't even bother entering in your wonderful popcorn giveaway. The popcorn didn't do anything wrong. There's no reason for it to suffer.

Obviously, it's an Orville Redenbacher microwave. That makes all the difference.

Just don't use that button on the small bags. They will explode. I speak from experience!

Wow, you are just too cute! I, too, love the popcorn button, but on our microwave we need to know the size of the bag. But, I, too, agonize over how long to microwave (cook, bake) everything. Our microwave also does not have number buttons - that is a pain!

I love the popcorn button on our microwave also. I don't use the other food buttons, but it needs a corndog button, because that is what I allow my son to cook for himself.

DO NOT use the popcorn button on a mini size bag, it will burn the shit out of it.

It's for the 2.7oz (or 3.7 I can't remember) standard size bag.

It also DOES NOT work on the Jolly Time brand.

I'm quite the popcorn expert. Throw some M&Ms in with it just after you pop it, they get all melty and delish. Yum.

I want a microwave that reheats pizza without making it soggy! I'm jealous...

drizzle some caramel on it, yum

Mine you have to tell what size bag it is and then it is off and popping, I have found that 10 extra seconds helps on mine though, so I just hit the more button once

I've used the "pizza" button and in my experience it turns the pizza into a slice of molten lava. Besides, pizza is better reheated in the oven.

LMAO... you are TOO funny....

You all are crazy. Pizza is best cold, straight out of the fridge, for breakfast.

Hello there,

Add me to the sad crowd with a microwave that burns popcorn when I use the popcorn button. I love the concept, but in reality I have to stand nearby and listen closely while timing the pops in order to avoid burning.

My microwave (def not a high-end machine) will actually adjust to different size bags. The 3.5 oz. (largest) size bag will cook correctly when the button is pressed once; if you press twice it cooks for the 3.0 oz. size, three times for the minis - don't know the size, what's the point. I also have to add about 25 seconds for the larger bag (cheap piece of crap microwave) but it is nice to have to only push a couple of buttons instead of guessing all the time! Mine pops the regular bags with one button push, two for the snack size. The potato button is an awesome wonder to behold as well. Push, and poof! perfect every time, no matter how many potatoes you put in there. I stuffed it full of little red skinned ones last night, hit the button, and when they were done I smashed them up with butter, sour cream and such. My family thinks I'm so clever, heh.

Holy crap, are you serious about the potatoes?? That is amazing!! I can't believe people aren't raving about these buttons more often. Mine also has a vegetable button...that's a pretty general statement if they think any vegetable will cook properly if I push that button. How could that be??

I literally blew up my parents' microwave by using the popcorn button - explosion, smoke, the need to buy them a new microwave - the whole nine. I have not trusted those liar buttons ever since.

The popcorn button is the only one I use. I love it. I'm not sure if mine does "hit twice for small bags" but I sure am going to try. Thanks!

I can speak to the popcorn and potato buttons. Seriously, when we bought our house, I fell in love with the kitchen features in this order: 1. copper pot rack, 2. gas stove and 3. popcorn and potato buttons on my microwave.

Have you tried the new "Pour Over Butter" popcorn by Orville Redenbacher? You get gipped one bag, but each bag comes with a side packet of real butter. You pop as normal, then drizzle the butter into the bag. Shake furiously.

Absolutely to die for. Except you have to fight the urge to take the butter as a shot.

Does you microwave have a kids button? Under that heading mine does Chicken nuggets, hotdogs, hot chocolate, kids size frozen meals, and french toast sticks.
Worth pushing lots of buttons just to find out what you have. All my "magic buttons" are the reason we purchased this model.

just wanted to toss in this comment (over a year later) that if you keep your unpopped bags of popcorn in the refrigerator, you will have significantly fewer unpopped kernels after microwaving.
