Truthiness

There are more people than I had thought who believe Barack Obama is a Muslim.

He is not.

I also want to take a moment to point out that not all Muslims are evil, America-hating terrorists. Saying that would be like equating all Christians to those Westboro "God hates fags" freaks.

Fundamentalist anything is bad, pretty much. That has nothing to do with this quick political service announcement though, since Obama is not Muslim.

Here is a Snopes article clearing up 50 Lies About Obama, there are a lot of mistruths out there, and Snopes does a good job straightening those out while still making for interesting (and short) reading.

HERE is a link where you can make your own Obama poster, like I did over there.

HERE are some panoramic, 360 degree shots of another recent rally.

What we don't want is more of this:

And yeah, I know that a lot of you don't like when I talk politics. You'll live. ;-)

Good post! I'm a Barack supporter, he is the best candidate we have to choose from. Plain & simple..we need change.

I commented again on the Tues McCain post you did. The smear videos probably won't stop.

This is the downside to the internetz.

The point is that the video (Jason provided) took several individual statements (and some mistruths spoken by the voice over) and cut and paste them together to build a story. They want to make you believe that Michelle is not patriotic because of those words. They beat that drum repeatedly.
If you watch this video...

Does it make you think that McCain hated the US until the vietnamese torchered him? Doesn't make me think that. But if someone runs a video that has a voice over that tells you what to think, and you watch it 50 times, you start to believe what the little voice is telling you.

People need to settle down. Those videos are intended for gullable people who want to believe that Obama has some psycho conspiracy going on. It's meant to scare you and in the case of Jason, it appears to have worked.

I don't really give a crap about Michelle Obama (although I'm sure she's lovely), but if we're going to have a campaign between First Ladies...Cindy McCain better be very afraid. She is not a nice lady. There's plenty of bad to say there. However, she's not running for president so I'm not worried about it.

Everyone can prove that anyone's wife is a bitch...and we've all said some stupid shit. It's more of a concern whether or not someone is likely to DO stupid shit, and the McCains both seem to have impulse control issues, based on past behavior.

I have no idea why the less smart people vote based on the wife.

It's hard to watch. The last election (Mrs. Kerry) was a good example.

Go to www.politifacts.com/truth-o-meter

this site does an excellent job of sorting truth from fiction--and backing up their findings.

Seems to me that almost all of the hate mongering stuff is aimed Obama--little, if any, coming from the Obama/Democratic camp...just an interesting observation

Can you tell this is my hot button? :)

If people don't think we should leave Iraq (and stop borrowing from China to pay 12 billion a month to rebuild Iraq) or they don't like the Obama tax policy (which provides additional tax cuts for people making less than $75k and increases Capital gains tax for people making millions - to a rate similar to what average people pay for payroll tax), then vote for McCain. Don't do it because you believe Obama has some secret plan to kill you if elected just because of smear videos. And stop watching the twilight zone too.

Maddness of Me said...

mizliz - I find that interesting too. I also feel a sense of "genuine" from Obama.

I laugh when I say that though because I'm really a Gore Whore.

I agree with your post I just think America is afraid of change. I for one have 2 cousins leaving for Iraq in August and I would like nothing more than for this to be over.

If Obama can reboot this economy, then I'm all for him. I'm not sure who I'm going to vote for yet, but it sure as hell isn't based on whether someone is Muslim or not. I was just laid off from my job today -- that makes both me and my husband without jobs -- so anyone that can fix this housing problem and get people jobs again gets my vote.

Ashley -- I'm going to be joining you in your Adventure in Uncertainty. Wanna get together and drink some wine?

Oh hell, Mitch!! I can't believe you got laid off. Actually I can because it's like the freaking apocalypse is happening in the area you and I live in.

I'm shocked when I meet someone who can still spend money.

I am so, so, so sorry to hear it. Damn does that suck. I actually have a great poor people post coming up, now that I have researched being poor, so unfortunately, you should stay tuned for that.

We should totally meet at Sweet Tomatoes one day. I love that place, I never get up that way, and they take coupons. We'll bring our own wine, in flasks or something, lol!! ;-)

Well, there should be some secret spy jobs opening up at the Telecom companies soon, given the legislation passed today. Keep your peeps open for those. Why the hell do we care what religion our Prez is???? Shouldn't we be more concerned that (s)he can add? or complete a sentence? or (gasp) understand foreign policy? I'm just freeballing here, but those things seem a little more important.

The widow picture made me cry.

And I for one am of the sentiment that religion should not matter in politics. It should be based on who can get the job done. We need change in this country and we need it now. We need to stop using the middle class to subsidize the upper class, and stop sending our jobs and our debts to foreign nations. Now. Not in eight more years.

Wow, thats a lot of emotion from one picture. It breaks my heart.

I think Obamas the only one who can help this country at this point. Everything is so fucked up that it terrifies me to think of what it would be like if McCain miraculously wins. But if you have heard McCain lately, he's just backing up 99% of everything Bush is saying (I leave the 1% open in case I've missed something).

now don't you go and make me stop reading your liberal self ;)

how is it ok to increase capital gains taxes? they've already paid taxes on their income, that they happened to invest wisely so that they would have money to retire on. Lord knows we can't rely on social security.

almost forgot - pleeeaaase don't tell me people still believe anything Al Gore says! He is such an idiot, and the biggest *hippo crate* I've seen.

Sweet Tomatoes, huh? Never been there but if they take coupons and we can sneak wine -- I'm game! Its a date.

I can't wait for your poor people post. I need all the help we can get. So far we've canceled the home phone, downgraded the cable, and still working on the other cut backs. Unfortunately I like Ray and Chay too much, so I can't sell them but I may rent them out for chores. ;)

I hope you've found a way to work in that interesting tidbit I shared with you about my informal observations of public housing complexes, and how roughly 50% of folks living in subsidized housing appear to have DirectTV. Maybe if they can afford DirectTV, they can afford to pay a little more of their rent? Or their health care? Or their grocery bill? Or their childrens' breakfast and lunch at school? Yes? No? Maybe so?
