The Mayans Do it Right

You know what really struck me while watching the movie Apocalypto?

I need to accessorize more.

I've come to this conclusion before. More than once. But I was reminded again when seeing the spectacular costumery, or lack thereof, in this movie.

The thing is, I always feel weird. Like I look like I'm trying too hard. Logically I know that I very rarely look at someone wearing accessories and judge them as trying too hard, so I'm not sure exactly where this bizarre mindset comes from, but that combined with not wanting to give little kid the tools to strangle me with, really inhibits my accessory wearing.

My friend Sherri recently pointed out that I am An Artist now and I can wear whatever I want. That is very true. Especially in regards to accessories.

My hairdresser (aka my soul mate) wears fantastic jewelry. Stuff I would never think of wearing on a daily basis. But it looks so great and makes her so interesting and totally fits with her look and personality.

I know she does a lot of HSN shopping, so I decided to see what inspired her and check it out for myself.

I like this one, but why does it have to be $125? It looks like polished rocks. Very pretty polished rocks, but still, not $125 worth.

I like this one $99

I love these

Ohhhh

Ahhhhh

Clearly I'm running out of steam (picture posts make me really tired), but my point is that I want to dress like the Mayans. Except with more clothes and less tattoos and piercings.

Also, HSN has some nice jewelry. With Flex Pay....I know, I know, I can't buy any of it but it is nice to know that if I was ever able to purchase some things for myself, I could do so in 4 easy payments.

Sounds like a Target trip is in order for you. They always have cute stuff for fairly cheap. And Banana Republic jewelry sales rock, too!

Not that I would know. I haven't bought jewelry for myself in years. I, too, suffer from Accessory Anxiety.

You must get thee to a Kohls. They have great jewelry and it is quite afforable.

That last one is gorgeous! Have you looked around on etsy? I've seen some lovely pieces over there, and sometimes it's more affordable too.

You know I am cheap (read: poor) as hell. I have TONS of jewelry like that (detracts from size of my arse). Target online, Kohls and surprisingly enough Claire's has great prices! There's a great chaing in KY/TN other places called Jewelry and Handbag Warehouse and that's another great source.

Of course, you're really accessory is your personality and your kickass talent...right?

Joann's has some great stuff to make your own accessories. It's really not hard to find what you like and string them together. If you want to get fancier you can but simple would still look cool.

I LOVE the second one and that last blue one! Damn, those prices are ridiculous for something I would get tired of quickly anyway!

I'll have to stick with Kohl's :-P

Accessories are the easiest way to update an outfit, seriously if you have the same old outfit and add a statement bracelet or necklace (not both at the same time) it makes the whole outfit look new. The most important thing to remember is, don't be too matchy-matchy with your jewelry to each piece or to your outfit. Don't be that girl who wears a pink top, pink earrings, pink necklace and nail polish all at the same time. Like for example I have a pastel yellow (girly) dress that I'm wearing on Sunday and I'm going to wear this huge blue lapiz NON-girly necklace with it...it's going to be fierce! A little Unsolicited fashion advice. Have fun and you can buy cheap shit to start off with. :)

I have been wearing the hell out of scarves lately. You know, the ones that are made of cotton and long and soft? I bought a 3-pack from American Apparel, and get a crazy amount of compliments on them. Might not work for you in FL, though..too sweaty.

I also like Limited and Express for jewelry and Forever 21...cheap, cute and unusual stuff. I just pretend I'm the mom of one of the teenagers in there when I go. :)

You are exactly like me. I don't know why, but I just don't feel comfortable with alot of accessories. I wear the same tiny post earrings all the time and my wedding rock, and that's it.

I either feel like a street walker or just cheap when I even try. I have collected a ton of accessories because they always look cute until I get them home and try to wear them. I have a huge jewelry box of things I never wear.

In the end, I'm sure it's all in my head.

I absolutely have no idea how to accessorize, which is why I own one pair of earrings, and my wedding rings for jewelry. I like all the stuff you posted though, but I wouldn't pay that amount of money either! Maybe I'm going to have to try some of these ladies tips...

I always feel like such a poser when I where accessories.

Totally off topic, but for some reason I have been wanting to hear your views on circumcision, vaccinations, and all of those other topics that get babycenter moms in a tizzy. I am 18 weeks pregnant with my second, and if it's a boy, we will probably circumcise, but I want to know what YOUR opinion is. I am trying to research first!

You've got to go to this website. I LOVE this store! It's by my home town and whenever I'm in town, I'm all over this place. They have CHEAP costume jewelry. I always have people asking me where I get my stuff and little do they know much of it is under $10. I was thrilled when they opened up an on-line store. Enjoy!

Ashley, I think catfish should be a regular fashion advisor on this blog!! anyone who knows her knows how fashionable she is (she is a fashion designer after all), and I am just like you about feeling like I am trying to hard so end up wearing nothing. Catfish could wear one of those african plates in her bottom lip and look great!

I don't know if it's really relevant or not, but thought it was a great place to share that someone found my blog by googling "dog the bounty hunter earrings" yesterday.

Let's hope that what they read discouraged them from purchasing.
