Serenity Sunday

Awwwww. It's Sunday! Today is our day to make our homes more serene, whether that involves nagging your husband to put up that shelf you want up or kicking out your family and lying in bed while reading a book (does that sound like Heaven or what?), we're supposed to do something that will help make our home a sanctuary.

I am actually feeling somewhat positive (today) about NLP:RD and about the potential to have a home that I love again. "Slowly but surely" keeps running through my mind...it took a long time for things to get this bad, so it's going to take a while (and a lot of baby steps) to get things up and running again.

However, I am turning 30 this year. I'm almost certain that 30 year olds make dinner almost every night and wouldn't rather gnaw their own toes off than let their snooty neighbors peek past the foyer. Right?

Whatever, my short term goal is to invite the IRL Girl Crush over. She's catching on to the fact that to see me she has to extend the invite and I don't want it turning into a whole weird thing. Besides, she's really nice, she's not uptight or neaty neat and I know she'd love my stuff because she has some cool old stuff in her house too.

I want her here with her feet on my coffee table, however, my neurotic self will not feel better about inviting her unless I DO stuff. My house isn't that bad either, if you all came over you'd be like, "Really? This is what you're always bitching about? How about you just get up and put some stuff away and mop? Then you'd be done."

And I know this. It is a psychosis. Luckily, it only has to be PERFECT the first time and then we're settled and can move on to being BFF.

Now I know you're all sick of hearing about my new online Girl Crush, The Nester, but she has influenced me in a major way. Yesterday I redecorated using stuff I have. We've lived here for 5 years and I did most of the decorating when we first moved in. So stuff is getting pretty stale and no longer feels like it is making an impact. It all kind of got stuck where it was and I looked around with a new eye yesterday and moved all kinds of stuff around and came up with a new plan.

Also, I'm going to paint my hutch black and paper the back. Just like Nester's. I've decided that doing everything she does is a lot less creepy than sneaking into her house, stealing her hairballs, making miniature replicas of her and eating them.

So I'm also going to have to start doing Dave Ramsey again to get ourselves out of this financial quagmire and I might have to have a 3rd boy since she does.

For everyone worried that you're going to lose your Ashley as she transforms into The Nester...I wouldn't worry too much. Remember my obsession with Monogram Momma? I did buy a lot of monogrammed things but my transformation pretty much ended there. Don't get me wrong, I still love her, I've just come to terms with the fact that it's too hard to become her.

Same thing will happen with Nester, but hopefully my house will benefit.

As I typed this, little kid wrote all over the coffee table with crayon.

Which brings us to our suggested drink of the day: Sangria.

Can I give you my awesome, highly inquired after, top secret Sangria recipe?

Take 1 bottle of Sangria (the stuff in the green bottle with the oranges on the label, you'll see it). Add 1 bottle of Sprite. Add lots of fruit, apples, oranges, maybe some cherries and 1 cinnamon stick. Serve in pretty tall glass thingy with a spigot.

I serve it at almost every party and everyone thinks I have some awesome Sangria recipe when really, I'm just watering it down with Sprite and adding pretty things.

I doubt I'll be having Sangria today, but maybe I'll get a bottle of wine while we're out. It will be San Giuseppe Sunday for me, my cheap Pinot Grigio. In the old days it would've been Santa Margherita Sunday, but these days we do quantity over quality. Because we're Klassy like that.

Okay, off to try to get people fed and in the shower so we can go run our errands and then we'll come home and Mr. Ashley and I will hang up all of the pictures I've moved to new locations and I'll debate diving right into this hutch project or thinking about it for another year.

Have a happy Sunday.

What size bottles of Sangria and Sprite?????

We have recently done some freshening up of our house and moving some stuff around. It does make you feel more motivated to stay on top of your crap when it looks nice.

Recipe sounds delish. I am about on burn-out, so keep on keeping on. Decorate enough for both of us.

You're totally still my favorite MM. We've just moved on past Girl Crush phase and onto Old Married Couple who doesn't even need to keep in touch to know we're friends. That's the best.
I think of you every time I look at my monogrammed shower curtain. ;-)

So Tired, get the biggest bottle of Sangria and a couple of 2 liters of Sprite. You only need one I think. I don't know, I just fill up my pretty drink thingy til it's full.

I love The Nester AND sangria... The Nester also lived in my hometown (of 30 years,) so I feel some weird special bond with her. And, I have a special bond with sangria as well... It's pretty and it's alcohol... A winning combo.
